Getting a PDA

I'm looking for a PDA (no phone), which has a pretty decent battery life, a good sized screen, and would be nice if it was VGA.

I checked out the axim x50v; it's a nice PDA, but lacks good battery life...Only about 3 hours or so of continual use.

EDIT: forgot to mention that I'm looking for something with Windows Mobile on it
 
You should get some "hands-on" experience at a local electronics store if possible. That way, you can test the varying input methods yourself and see what works best for you.

That said, I highly recommend the "thumb keyboard" input method. Everyone I know who has used both a stylus input and the thumb keyboard prefers the thumb keyboard.

how often do you use it per day?
 
Admittedly, it's light use, by power nerd standards. And it lasts at least 2 days.
I bust it out mostly for notes, calendar, calculator, Excel, that sort of thing. And I disable all wireless services.
I wouldn't be surprised if the thing lasts a full work day with a single charge. I'm sure the manual lists the life of the battery, I just never read it.
 
i've heard great things about the X50v, especially cause you can usually get it for under $400. The video acceleration and windows mobile 5.0 upgrade is really impressive.

I checked out some reviews online, and all said it was a great PDA, other than the battery life. One review said specifically, at continual use, it laster ~3 hours or so 😕
 
This thing is almost powerful enough to be a full-blown PC on it's own. With that kind of heavy duty use, I'm not shocked by your numbers. It sounds like the big battery might be a good investment for you. It comes with it's own rear cover, and it doesn't fit the Rhinoskin case. You'll also have the AC and DC charge plugs, in a pinch. Don't forget to pick up the screen protectors.

Whoa, $418 with the extra battery and USB cradle. Strike while the iron is hot!
 
x50v is one of the best ones. I would highly recommend it.
Note: the battery life depends largely on what kind of use you demand. If you are just gonna use it for your contacts, notes, memos, it should last you a long while, certainly much more than 3 hours.
However, if you are gonna use the wireless continuously, no PDA would last you longer than 3 hours. The wireless adapaters arent battery efficient enough yet.
Listening to mp3s, with good power consumption (turning the lcd backliight off) would last you long.
 
I also recommend the x50v. There's a setting in the PDA where it can adjust the CPU speed, depending on what you are doing. So if you are just doing simple stuff, the CPU won't be running at 624Mhz and eating up your battery.

There's been some super deals lately. I got mine for $379, but people have been picking them up for ~$320 or less.

Any deals like that going on now?

Also, if I lower the CPU speed a bit, how much longer would the battery last? Is it a noticable difference?
