The price of the 1950xt has been bouncing all over the place. Keep checking, it will go back to 149$ again ^^

I don't think the 1950 cards are a good bet at all. They consume too much power, and DX10 is a great feature to have down the line. I read that an 8600 will outperform a 1950XT in Crysis, which is the next game that everyone is going to want to play.

I would get an 8600 card. They cost about the same as the 7600 cards and have DX10. They will run under XP, just in DX9 mode; there are no compatibility issues there.

Thanks for everyone's input - I wish I had known that SickBeast, but I ordered a 1950 pro card before I read your post.

You will be happy. I just got the 1950Pro 512MB because I was in the same boat as you. I only play LOTR's online and can run maxed out at 1680@1050 with this card. I will go with a DX10 card down the road but for $130 (when I got mine) the card I got plays the only game I run just fine:)

Well, if you plan on staying with XP for a few years, you probably made a good choice. I just hope your PSU is up to the task (you can talk to Apoppin about what happens when you have an inadequate PSU...even his 520w unit couldn't cut it). I think all games are supposed to have a DX9 mode for the next 2 years so you should be ok.
