Ok, I just got owned by performancebikeinc.com

I just emailed them, here is a copy of the email:

I placed an order for the GT i-drive 3.0 Large size mountain bike on Saturday with the 2-days shipping option.

However, it still has not received today, so I contacted the customer service center by phone to check on the stats.

I have been checking the website repeatedly prior to calling, because I am seriously considering ordering another i-drive size small for a family member. At the time I checked, the large size was still available on the website.
The customer service person checked my order and told me that she JUST checked the website and it only shows small size i-drive 3.0 available, so therefore she can not fill my order.

I am tried to explain to her that I did not place my order today but on last Saturday, and through out the weekend and most of Monday the website showed large in stock. I also received a conformation email about my order.

However, she continuing to tell me that the website said it was out of stock.

At this point, I still have not gotten any cancellation notice from you.
Is it your normal business practice to fill out orders without the abilities to check inventory first? The reason I choose to order with your company is due to the glowing reviews on www.mtbreview.com. I am extremely dissatisfied with this situation.

Since I have received a conformation notice, I believe the fairest thing for you to do is to fill my order. If that?s not possible due to an inventory error on your behalf, I then believe the right thing to do is offer me some kind of replacement order.

So it looks like I am looking for another bike, can you guys give me some recommandations?
How would the hardrock comp for $510 compare to the $450 i-drive 3.0? Is it better or worse?
What about the 440?

Hahaha good luck with that one... performance bike is becoming a joke when it comes to shipping. If you're used to lightning fast shipping from companies like newegg have fun waiting for this one... i ordered tires on the 13th... it just got shipped this morning. Previous orders before that... i ordered something that showed in stock... i check my order online and it says its dicontinued... but they shipped the rest of the items to me without asking... they did that twice. supergo, performance, and nashbar are all owned by the same people... but ive been happy with the other two. :)

The hardrock comp is $460 at my LBS and at the Supergos around here... i have a hardrock sport and im very happy with it, nice frame screaming to have upgraded components :D... theres a couple of people here with the comps... you can't order specialized bikes online though.

Try jensonusa.com if you havent already... goodl luck. :)

33lb isn't that heavy for a FS, but do you really need a FS? I suggest getting a lighter, more nimble XC bike. I rode a 29-lb Specialized FSR for years, and that was too heavy for me. My next bike will be much lighter -- right now I just ride my Cyclocross bike everywhere. :D

Agreed!

Hard tail forever! (Or my road bike, which is of course a hard tail as well. ;) )[/quote]

Hail to the Hard-Tail Hardcore!

Well, I called a few of their actual stores, and they all have this bike in-stock.

I wonder if their custom service would be good enough to actually send me one from one of the stores.

So, my other option would be to wait and pray? On the chances that they might have shipped it out to me?

I dunno you could give it a try and ask them... AFAIK... all Supergo, Performance Bike, and Nashbar orders are shipped from their North Carolina warehouse... they'll probably charge you $50 for having it disassembled and packaged since thats what they charge around here to have a bike packaged.

What about the 440?

performance sucks sweaty bike-short chamois. the worst $20 i ever spent in my life was to join "team performance" buyers club.

Anyways, for your price range, youre looking at the trek 4900, kona blast, khs alite 1000, specialized hardrock, or maybe the jamis durango. The frames are all going to be taiwanese aluminum, so the only big difference is which geometry you prefer, which has the best components, and what kind of service the store you buy it from offers. Supergo doesn't have the best service policies, it's like 30 or 90 days free tune ups, which isn't all that hot if you don't aren't very mechanical. Some places offer 1 year free service, some offer lifetime tuneups (the average bike lasts 3 years of normal cross country abuse).

Personally I'd get at least Deore LX level components, and plan on buying a new seat as I've never seen an OEM seat I cared for. If you really like riding chances are you'll only have this bike a season or two before you upgrade, so don't stress over it too much.

And my new sled is 40 pounds. The thing (haro x3) is a freeride tank but I still ride it up mountains and it's a great trailbike. I just don't go uphill very fast. I make it up on the downhill. :p

Good luck on your pick and keep riding!

Deore LX level would be great, I just don't see anything under $500 that have that kind of parts.

They do still have the small available, I was going to get that for my gf, with the team performance buyers club.

Could you share your experience with us? Why do you think they blow so much?
