I am seconds away from getting a new GT I-drive 3.0 for about $450. Anyone have experience with them?
The only thing that is holding me back is the weight (I think it is around 33lb). Is that heavy for a FS?

no 33lbs is not heavt for FS, teh I drives are nice and for 450 thats nota bad deal, they do suffer from "chain suck" tho well the older ones did and thats annoying

I haven't cared much for the GT's since they were bought out.

33lb isn't that heavy for a FS, but do you really need a FS? I suggest getting a lighter, more nimble XC bike. I rode a 29-lb Specialized FSR for years, and that was too heavy for me. My next bike will be much lighter -- right now I just ride my Cyclocross bike everywhere. :D

Agreed!

Hard tail forever! (Or my road bike, which is of course a hard tail as well. ;) )

The biggest problem with FS bikes, I think, is that it trains people to just roll over objects, since they don't feel it. When you've got less shock absorption, it forces you to be a better rider -- then if you ever make the switch to a good FS bike (Santa Cruz...mmm... :D), then you'll really have a leg up riding.

33lbs is pretty heavy for a bike, I hope you will be taking it out on trails that really need it all the time because otherwise a front fork is enough. For what you're spending you could easily get a hardtail that weighs under 26lbs.

Weight definitely makes a difference. Get a lighter hardtail with better components with your money.

Ok, how does a $450 hardtail compare to the i-drive 3.0?

From all the reviews I have read, the i-drive is getting decent recomm for sub $1000 fs bikes.

Can someone provide some links?

Specialized > GT :p

Is this your 1st mountain bike, I would go with a hardtail. Hone your skills and you'll appreaciate a good FS bike.

I was also seconds away from this bike -->Enduro

SuperGo was having a big sale. It was the last one, but I couldn't do it. I'm just not ready for it, still on my current hardtail bike.

You might try this site for reviews-->mtbreview.com

i-Drives are pre-buyout aren't they? I know my 6.0 is pre buyout... They are heavy, but that's a given for any FS. If you want light & fast get a road bike.

Anyway, I love mine. I paid about the same for mine new (I assume yours isn't new, $450 for a 3.0 is damn cheap), I've been very happy with it.

I haven't ridden mine in forever.

I used to live in Oregon, so I have quite abit of experience mountain biking. I have always rode a rigid.

I am looking to upgrade my now pos bike, and have to stay under $500ish. I am just not sure what else I can get that is better for that price range.

ViperGTS, the I-drive 3.0 is brand new shipped for $450 at performancebike.com
(check chubbywallet for the thread)

Damn, that's a nice deal...

I'd be tempted to grab it if I didn't already have one. I'd be better off upgrading the one I have.

my last bike was a T2.5 Rover.

Do you think it worth upgrading to XT?
