Getting a new intel combo - replacing A7N8X Deluxe & OC'd 1700@ 2ghz

Here's what I'm getting:

MB ASUS P5P800 865PE
CPU P4/3.0GHz 800M LGA775|2M

That is a 3ghz Prescott with 2 megs cache.
I've heard good things about the P5P800 mobo too.

This way I can use my 1GB PC3500 ddr & my BFG FX5900.

Anybody here running one of these combo's?

Gonna do some HTPC stuff, some gaming, some video work.

You can use those with an AMD Athlon64 754 or 939... Unless you live for encoding, and love lots of heat, and like to pay more for less, then you need to get an Athlon64 something...

If you are getting a prescott with the 2mb cache, then it must be a 600 series, with EM64T...you do realize that the 64bit won't be recognized by that chipset right? The 600 series does help with the heat some. Perhaps you could sell your 5900, and get a PCIe motherboard with a 915 chipset and PCIe video card , so you could still use your current gig of PC3500 DDR, but also have the EM64T enabled.

All depends on what you are doing with it. I have a A64-3000+ OC'ed to 3200+ levels and a P4-3.2GHz. For SETI the P4 does a much better job by 40%. The A64 runs an average of 1h54m per WU, while the P4 does two (2) WUs in 2h43m. My Dell XPS 3.4 GHz (P4) does even better with two (2) WUs every 2h16m. Gotta love Hyperthreading!! 🙂

OOPS, almost forgot! Congrats on the new box Wiz! You should love it!
