I'm a newbie at cars, what do i need to know before purchasing and i'm looking for an entry level car (new), thanks.
 
How much can you spend?
How many doors do you want?
Manual or automatic?
Do you prefer American, European, Japanese, Korean or Yugoslavian?
Do you plan on doing any overclocking?
 
With that kind of budget, I'd go for a used car.

I think it's a lot better to have a good used car then a shine new POS.

That's a big overestimation... Lol, what the drugs didn't go through? j/k, for that kinda money, hyundai and kia are your only choices.
 
The only decent new car choice is the 2001 Hyundai Accent for $9,828 and most of the reviews I have read have all been good so far. Plus it has a really good warranty.

With $7,000 - $10,000 you have 2 real options:

1) Used car.
2) New Hyundai with warranty.

I'd go for the Hyundai.

If only wyst could see me now he'd be so proud. Seriously though the Accent will give you the most bang for your buck. Up your budget to $13,000 and you can get a stripped Honda Civic but then I'd recommend getting the Hyundai Elantra.
 
Is that 7-10 over all or as a down payment? If that is a down payment, you could get something pretty nice... If it is a down payment, what kind of payments do you want to make?

with that said, you ain't gonna get any new japanese car for 7000-10000 bucks.

And may I ask why you want Japanese, I'm not saying that's a bad way to go, just that there is a good counter point to the japanese only arguement.

You can buy an equivalent american car for much less than a japanese car (IE Taurus is a lot cheaper than Camry or Accord) you will probably have more repair problems with the American car, however the repairs will be much cheaper. You will be paying mucho denero if something bad happens to your japanese car.

You can buy warrantees that cover a TON of stuff for like 1000 bucks for your american car too, carbuyingtips has a lot of info on that.

the reason i prefer japanese car is that they are very reliable, my friends drove toyota and haven't had any major problems for 10 yrs.

Bluga - I agree Japanese cars are very reliable, case in point. My sister bought a used 1990 Toyota Corolla 2 years ago with 60,000 miles and it still runs like a champ. That's an excellent first car for her. But since you're spending nearly $10,000 you really cannot compare a used Japanese car vs. brand new Korean car.
