I'm not saying wood won't work but I'd think the steel would last longer and probably wouldn't cost much more if you get it from a scrap yard.
 
Does Mercedes offer the Airmatic suspension on the SL55? The Airmatic suspension on my E and on the S Classes I've driven can raise the car when needed to scale steep inclines.

Also, aren't they now SL63 and SL65AMGs now? The only 5.5L is the SL550 non AMG.

It's going to be used, my dad doesn't buy new cars, and yes I was looking for an airmatic solution, something like hte ferraris and maseratis that raise the front suspension to go over speedbumps.
 
The RSX, like most FWD cars, has a longish front overhang, which can play a greater role in these kinds of scrapes than overall ride height. Aside from measuring each car to find out though, there's not much you can do that hasn't been already said.

Well, I think the easiest solution might just be...........

DRIVING ONE OVER TO SAID HOUSE & SEE IF IT WILL OR WILL NOT CLEAR!!!


My *guess* is that they will clear just fine, but centerline of caster to bottom front lip will be the measurement you'll want to compare and then compare that to your car, but that still may not be a sure bet assuming they're different lengths.

I say test it by driving it up & down first to see if there even *is* a problem.

Because most of what's been posted here has been too rational for his liking.

He can either:

Not buy the damn car.
Park outside.
Fix the grade.
Modify the car.

Nobody on this forum or anywhere else is going to give him a different answer unless there's something that we're all just not understanding about geometry.

I love how his response to this thread was telling someone to "shut the hell up" because the picture he posted was, well, of something other than the incline in question.

OP, your options are contained in this thread. Read them, decide what you want to do, and post pics of the end result if you're so inclined (get it?). Otherwise, what more do you want to hear?
 
My buddy's 9/11 turbo occasionally gets caught on ramps like the one you have pictured. He told me it's not much of a concern though, because the part that gets caught is some $50 piece of plastic that he just gets replaced whenever it starts to really bother him.
 
That slope doesn't look that bad for any stock car. I am about 3-4" from the ground and I might be able to navigate that.

Yeah my brother has had his 996 for a year or so and has had 2 lips not counting the original replaced. He is getting the hang of it now.

He used to be able to drive up to the curbs in his older rides.

Lets see here chump, I've already addressed all of your 'rational suggestions', heck I even suggested modify the car in the original post.

We can't park outside because vandals like to come into the area and break and steal stuff.

Fix the grade is a potential solution, but given how we just did a huge renovation, my mom has cancer and has to be in a sterile environment in the house, having more construction workers in and around the house is not a possibility.

So yes, I did tell someone to shut the hell up, do you keep a picture of your driveway on you when you're at work? Please diaf.
 
put a hydrolic lift kit on, duh

haha, I would say to realistically do it, youd have to change the angle on that driveway....if your mom has cancer, don't let the construction workers inside the house, they dont need to be in there at all.
 
dude that is almost as bad as the one in my parents driveway / garage..

i've scratched teh bottom going in and out if my focus is loaded.. i dont park my car in the garage.
 
I understand if your mother is ill, but to regrade the driveway they don't have to come in the house. I'd look into it, but make sure that the contractor knows that they need to stay outside.

If your dad has enough money to buy any of those cars, then he definitely has more than enough money to do a re-grade of the garage entrance...

There isn't really anything else you can do other than what has already been stated over and over in this thread already...so decide what you want to modify, the car or your garage entrance...

We already have two patient friendly cars, my dad is retiring in the next year or two and my mom wants him to get a toy to relax a little bit given the amount of stress he's been under because of my mom.

I guess we will be regrading the driveway.
