I really don't think sex matters much in temperment, although I've heard in the past that males were friendlier. Cat behavior can and will change as they grow older and things around them change.

My first cat, was very friendly when I first got her. Slept with me, etc. Then when I got my second cat, she tended to keep to herself. A couple years later, (she's now about 5), she will lay around the house all day and sleep, but literally the second I go into the bedroom at night and turn off the light she will jump on the bed (same spot, to the right of me by my armpit) and sleep next to me. If I want to have sex with the fiancee, I'll throw her off, and when we are done within a minute or two (without fail) she'll jump back up with a loud meow and go right back to my armpit.

My second female has grown progressively more needy. Some days she will be all over you, especially in the bathroom. My fiancee starting "teaching" her to come into crapper and beg to be rubbed when you are on the throne. It's really annoying. And when I'm on my recliner watching the tube, she'll do anything she can to be on your lap. And worst is how she'll pick up your hand with her nose if you are not petting her.

third female is about a year now. her behavior is still evolving, but it seems that she is the least needy of the three.

Ive had 3 female cats and 1 male cat. The female cats all lived out normal lifespans. The male cat was neutered and would always get in fights resulting in vet bills. He would also climb the screens like spidercat when he was hungry and tore all the screens around my house up. He ended up getting run over by a car.
