getting a gba....tactics ogre or golden sun?

played either of these games? they both seem to be well liked, i'm not sure which to get, feel free to chime in

I own both.
I totally reccomend Golden Sun.

Golden Sun is more of a kids RPG though, and its relatively easy. It has faces similar to the likes of >.< and ^_^ when they show emotions. (I don't mind since I use them though, lol). It starts off pretty dull, and I wasn't too into it. The story does get better though and I really liked it by the time I was done with the game. I didn't know I was near the end and when I beat it I wanted to play more.. it's kinda short (Golden Sun 2 will come out sometime relatively soon). The gameplay style is similar to that of Final Fantasy. You go around a world map to cities and such learning spells and getting Djinns. I missed one Djinn though but I'm too lazy to play from my last save point and beat the game again.

Tactics Ogre. I REALLY can't get into it at all. The graphics are pretty awesome and the story is very deep but dang the gameplay/story is so incredibly SLOW. And when I say slow, I mean SLOW. Each battle (which is very very very common) takes me like an hour just to finish. And then they want you to practice battle so you can level up your characters and learn abilities when your not even in a real battle (same speed). Its so painful. I've given it three attempts and basically got one battle further and stopped again because I was so tired of it. This isn't your typical RPG style of gameplay. You pretty much are given a road map and you click and choose where you want to fight (every round essentially if it doesnt cut to "story movie" mode). Uhhhh. I really want to like it, but I just can't... I really don't want to sell it, because I want to beat/enjoy it... but its so painful.

Have to give my plug to Advance Wars. One of the best games out for GBA and one that isn't just a remake of an original SNES game. Great strategy gaming. Rumor has it that it is coming for the GC eventually and will be online. :Q But of course its just a rumor, and one can only wish.

thanks for everyones input, i'm still kind of tied up, i *do* know i like games like tactics ogre, as i have put a few hundred hours into final fantasy tactics in the past (obsessively trying to get *everything*..man...exhausting but rewarding), then again i've played the final fantasies and other straight rpg games and i like those alot too.

how is the story in golden sun? i dont mind kiddish stuff (most of the games i used to play were that way and they are classics imo ), but there has to be a good story i can dig my teeth into, and characters that are likeable and not annoying. for example ff4, ff6, chrono trigger, xenogears, and some other games, had great stories and great characters, but ff8 and ff9 had AWFUL characters who i at best - did not like much or at worst - downright hated, and the stories were just bland and generic.

i am asking for this for christmas, so its basically like, if one is definitely better than the other, i'll ask for that specifically, if its undecided, i will just ask for either and let myself be surprised.

Forget Golden sun and Tactics Ogre, Get Metroid Fusion. Now theres a game worth buying.

Nah, I own golden sun and that games is pretty fun. Haven't played Tactics ogre yet, been looking into getting it. There already a sequal to golden sun but its an import. it should be in the US by next year.
