Getting a Dell 530 desktop - what video card should I get?

What is the benefit the 8600 would give you over the Intel 3100? They don't really say what they recommend and what the performance improvements are.

...seems to suggest there is no benefit in Solidworks to a high-end GPU, only a high-end CPU (and only dual-core at that...kinda sad...)

Yes, and as I interpret the table that is linked, I see an improvement in the time (column B) due to both the processor and the video card. Simon C has very close specs to what I will be getting.

I don't see a relationship with video card speed - take a look at the 1.83 CPUs, then note that there's no clear relationship with GPU.
