Heyas,

I'm building a new comp, and im not sure what motherboard to get...

so far, I'm probobly going to get: (prices are in $AU, $AU2 = $US1)

TBird 1.2ghz................... $299
motherboard: ???
512mb nanya pc2100.... $398
asus v8200 deluxe gf3. $919
sblive 5.1 D.E................... $169
creative fps2200.............. $265
ibm 60GB gxp60.............. $435
cdrw: 32x12x8 either sony($279) or acer($239)
monitor: 19" olympic($565), vibrant($550) or AOC($557)
case: ???
other stuff: fdd, nic, kb, mouse... $100

subtotal..............$2585 (~$US1243)
I have $3000-$3500 for the whole system... so the mb, cdrw, monitor, case and anything else i need can cost up to a grand($us500), or i could cut back on something else if need be.

what do you think about this comp?
the parts i am unsure about are in bold.

I would go with a plextor on the CDRW. For the case, Antec makes some pretty good ones. For the monitor, I would go with a Samsung 19".

Here's my .02 which you really shouldn't count to high...

Lower the card, that card would probably be outdated by the time the gaming industry catches up to it

Were you going to get DVD?

Cases, I hear VERY good things about Antec SX830, SX840, SX1030b

Uh, I think that's all...might want to go flat screen, IMO 3K is a lotta bucks you can easily get extra's, like an extra 15' flat screen with dual display or something...

Oh, and go with a better CDRW, you can definitely do better, i've never even seen anyone charging that much for that kind of CDRW lately if I'm reading your spec's right.

Splurge wise, Logitech I hear makes better stuff in keyboards and mice then MS, might even wanna go wireless.

NIC, any should probably do.

FDD, same as NIC I think.

UPS could be a good investment.

I think there are better monitors out there, Samsungs and Trinitrons

NewEgg, you can get 1.4 Tbirds for less money, RETAIL with the heat sink and fan

uh...I think i'm done...

Wow, I'm glad you posted the "Austrailian Money Thing" I was about to break the news to you that you were getting the business, sans Vaseline! Get an Antec case/power supply. Their cases come with the PS already installed. Get the 830/840/1030/1040. See them Here at their website.

I currently have the KS282/P303x combo, which is awesome and can be had for around $80 (American money!!! :p) Great case, great PS, but needs a little Dremeling to get the cooling optimized. If you dont' mind doing that, get the 282. The cases I listed above all come with better cooling, right from the factory. Check for yourself. As for the mobo, sorry, I'm not well-versed in DDR. Others will make mucho recommedations, I'm sure. Good luck, mate.

mobo: Epox 8K7A or MSI k7master
CDRW: Plextor 12/10 or another brand that has burn-proof
Case: Antec SX1030
Monitor: don't get a cheapo monitor, you'll regret it. Get a flat 19in like a Samsung 955DF, or 900NF if you can spend more

Everything looks good except the sound card and speakers. Get a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz or Hercules Gametheater XP with Boston Accoustics BA4800. They're the same price and much better.
