A friend of mine has a VAIO - unfortunately, without AGP and the Intel graphics are awful. She needs a dual videocard on the cheap, without gaming in mind, but rather doing video and graphics projects. No need for a capture solution, just a decent card that looks good - basically something under $60 since they all pretty much look the same nowadays...
1) @ newegg, we've come down to either a Radeon 9000 64mb for $55 or a Chaintech GeForce4 MX440-8x 64mb for $54, both PCI, offering DVI, VGA and s-video. Which would be the better solution? I haven't bought anything ATI since the stone ages...
2) Why is the Chaintech listed as 8x? Isn't that in reference to AGP slots? Will this work ok on her computer? Its an i845GL chipset.
If there is absolutely no difference, we'll probably pick up the ATI since its fanless.
