I found this to be so very similar to the OP's situation ... the ending was not expected:

Here’s How To Deal With Someone Parking In Front of Your Driveway

"And that's when I realized something.

When did I become one of those asshole people who complains about parking? I mean, really? Parking? Was I serious? Oh, I had to go over the curb for two seconds to get into my driveway, poor me. So what? Was this some great tribulation? Was I really exerting myself? Was I faced with a serious social inequity here?

And what's next? Would I stand in my doorway and yell at people whose dogs pee on my tree? Would I tell the garbage man to set the bin perfectly upright so I didn't have to bend over to pick it up? Would I start complaining about my dentures to cashiers at the grocery store? Was I really getting this angry about a parking space and a paper jam?

So to address the statement posed in the title, Here's how you deal with someone parking in front of your driveway, I have the answer: you don't. You grow up, you gain some perspective, and you move on. Assuming, of course, that they are only blocking a little bit of your driveway. If they're blocking the whole thing, you respond in an entirely different way: you start looking for an outlet where you can plug in your drill."

Speaking some truth. Pick our battles. Good perspective to view it.

I became one of those assholes when I started paying property taxes :p. Why should I have to finagle in and out of my driveway. Had I or anyone scrapped his car then I'd be on the hook. Fuck him.

Did you look at the picture? It's way too far in to say that it's only a minor inconvenience issue. If someone else parks legally on the other side but is close it may become a situation that he cannot get his car out.

Just chop the front of the car off and move the debris out of the way. It's blocking your access, so handle it yourself, that way nobody has to be inconvenienced to move their car.

Being serious from the picture its a pretty dick move. I'd call the cops like you did and deal with it provided you can safely get around it. If it becomes a regular thing call cops & tow company. Getting along with your neighbors is important. Everyone doesn't need to be friends but having a working relationships is critical.

do i call the cops or a towing company? i have no idea who owns this car. been parked here for two days. they are blocking almost 1/3rd of my driveway with the front of their car. i have left a color printed note with the picture of the car in my driveway and 2 hours later, the car is still there with the note tossed away somewhere.

asshole

If you are in NYC, then you should have called it in 2 days ago.
Everyone knows you don't block driveways. Basic rule.
You owe this person nothing. They are blocking your driveway. Do what you need to do remove the damn car.

Follow steps here
http://hookandgotowing.com/blocked-driveway/

If a vehicle is Blocking your Driveway, Owners or renters may request enforcement by doing the following:

1. Call 311.

2. Inform them the location, plate # and the type of vehicle blocking your driveway.

3. A police unit will be sent to your location to issue a summons to the vehicle.

4. As the officer is issuing the ticket call us and we will dispatch a tow truck immediately.

Is he towed yet?
He finally moved that pofs. I gave it until noon or I was calling the tow company. I gave this idiot a nice written warning too. Now whoever this tool is from NY just got a nice ticket to pay.

To top it all off there was space behind him so all they had to do was pull back a few inches.

Next time I'm calling the cops within an hour if someone does this again. It gets so fucking annoying to have to finagle my car out of my driveway.

You must be really nice.
I would have left no notes, given no warning, I have to swerve to pull out one time and they get ticketed and towed right away. Within the hour lol.

OP, next time just wrap up and tape several pillows/cushions to your rear bumper (or front if you are not backing out), and just gently push his car out as you back up. You won't cause any damage and his car will end up sticking out in the road like crazy which will then definitely draw the attention of the cops or towing companies.

He has an actual ticket on his car now. Call the towing company asap.

Problem solved.

Good

It's sad that some people need some legal incentive to do the decent thing. I didn't know he had enough space behind him either, that's a double douche move on his/her part.

And that's why you should have had it towed a few hours after you noticed it.

I didn't say that I agreed with the author ... I just thought that he took a different approach to the problem. We deal with situations in different ways. Personally, I would have handed it differently. First, I wouldn't have posted this thread. What does it get you? You sound like a whining baby and you end up getting no real help in the end, anyway. Second, I would have just called the cops and met the officer when he showed up and asked him how to resolve the situation in the least painful way (for me). It's not like this is the first time that anyone has partially blocked off another's driveway.

Yeah, I would have called the cops immediately from the comfort of my home. The added benefit is he doesn't know who did it.

Yeah, right. You think someone living next door gives two shits about someone blocking the neighbor's driveway?

He knows who called the police.

It gives the rest of us entertainment, and makes me feel better knowing I don't have to deal with city parking BS

He knows who called the police.

Or one generally just assumes the police drove by and gave them a ticket for blocking a driveway. But at the end of the day if he does?

My neighbor regularly has people over who partial block my driveway. They try and park in the gaps between drives on the cul'd'sac but there isn't enough room for a car. What really pisses me off is that there is plenty of parking on the main street like 30-40ft away that wouldn't block anyone.

We are on an internet forum - I think that's enough said of your first point. By the way, I'm pretty sure the OP found some of the responses helpful.

I thought from your original post that you wouldn't' have called the cops on him because you can still (marginally) get the car out. If you would have called the cops there really isn't much difference between your approach and how the OP handled it is there? If you met the officer they would have just ticketed the guy and asked you to call a tow company if you want. Not sure how else you think this can be resolved in a less painful way.
