getting a car fax report - what will it tell me

im intersted in picking up this salvage titled car from this guy who buys cars out of the auction and re-sells them. i asked him what kind of salvage title it was, and he said all he had to do is change the hatch of the car. he said it wasnt in any accidents. i dont believe him and he sounds as if he was trying to cover something up. i asked for the vin number and he said he wont give it to me unless i go down their and check out the car itself. im willing to go down there and check out the car and see what kind of condition it is in and what not. he said if i come down there he will give me the vin number and what not. but anyways what i wanted to know was if i run a carfax report on it, and the vin shows up salvage titled like he said, will it tell me what kind of salvage title it really is. like will it say "smashed front end, frame damage." or will it just say auto-accident or something? i really want this car and its at a good price, but i gotta know what kinda damage has been done before i dive deep into anything like this. thanks for your time.
