Okay, bear with me here because I'm trying hard to understand whats best and ideal for me. My apologies in advance if some think it noobish.

Lets say I want a 4800 X2 chip. What are my options?

Originally it was:
1)Buy a 4800

Okay, lets say I want to try a cheaper route and try overclocking. Now these options come into play:

2)Buy a 3800 and OC it
3)Buy a 4400 and OC it

These seemed to be the two best choices up till recently.

But now some new chips came into play recently that added more options

4)Buy a Opteron 165 and OC it
5)Buy a Opteron 170 and OC it (if you cant get a 165)

So if I chose to go the OC route and want the power and performance of the 4800 which would be ideal? Now I havent ever OC before so I'm thinking just get a proper rig and do a moderate OC job using air cooling (I know I dont want watercooling). Nothing fancy just a easy/moderate overclock. Many say moderate = 2.4-2.6 (In my mind anything 2.7+ is getting into heavy OCing).

Another question I had is one thats probably a common one amongst us OC noobs but does an overclocked chip like the 3800 and 165/175 perform in every way as good for gaming? Yeah, you are matching the core speed but is it the same exact performance as the 4800? Way I hear it its so close it doesnt really matter so its a moot point.

4 then 5. Actually the odds are you will best a 4800+ inperformance. Virtually everybody that I have seen has gotten at least 2.5, more than the 2.4 of the 4800+.
