Get your used checks back with statement?

Do u guys get your used checks back with every month statement?...Bank of america used to
send them back to me but not anymore...is there a point to it? Should i care if they keep it for me...
seems less trash for me.

I get "duplicate" check books, so i don't have to worry about it. If i need a copy of a check, I can just request it online, or call my bank.

My bank used to send them back, but now they just keep them (I think they keep the originals for 2 years, and copies for 10 years).

It's useful if you want to be sure that you aren't getting fraudulent cheques written on your account - but you could always ask the bank for a copy of a cheque if you had reason to suspect it was not legitimate.

You can request BofA send them to you (for $2/month in some cases). I ask for them because I don't keep a register and BofA's web site is only good for 3 months of statements.

I get them back. Had to ask twice before they did it though. I HAVE had to order checks in the past in order to clear up problems, and it was a pain in the ass. I'd rather not do that again.

yeah i know when i access my acct online i can click on a check and its a scanned image of the original...
i can't anticipate needing more than that. i check regularly for fraudulent charges by looking online so
i can't really think how i would need them. and yes, on some of the checking accts they charge $2 to
send them to u. "There is a $2 monthly check enclosure fee."

Oh, and Washington Mutual doesn't charge you when you have them sent back with your statement.

Our bank doesn't send the checks anymore but they do send a xerox of all of the checks shrunk down a little. They can get a months worth on the front and back of one sheet.

Brilliant IT department there, don't you agree. It always ceases to amaze me how banking services are still stuck in the 80s era of computing.

I don't get them back from BofA and I've never needed them. I do get paper statements and I do save those. I have needed a copy of a check, though, and while they charged me for the copy it was an easy process.

Yes my bank still sends me my used cheques every month, with no extra fee involved...

Used to, now getting full size sheets of paper with copies of them on it, 4 a sheet or so, very nice!

Yes, my bank sends my checks back to me with my statement. I would be mad if they didnt. I dont want my used checks "out there." However, my great bank also sends me other people's checks in my statement and the opposite occasionally. It's a real ghetto bank. I know, I used to work there.

The reason I don't want to have to rely on the bank to provide copies of checks is that I might want to switch banks. If I'm no longer a customer, do you really think I'll be able to get a copy that I might need?

I wonder what I'd have to go through to prove payments when I pay mostly through electronic payment?

I have a friend at work who had a electric meter go haywire. Detroit Edison cut off his electricity saying that he hadn't paid for 5 months and that he own $3000 for the 5 months. He brought in canceled checks, and they turned on the electricity after he paid the $2500 difference. Supposedly they're going to re-imberse him after an investigation.

I wonder what would have happened if I were to encounter an even more stupid situation, where someone said I owed a lot more for a lot longer?

Do you work for a bank IT dept? Do you know how expensive it is to store that much data for all of your customers? Petabytes of information instantly available on DASD is not cheap! IBM doesn't just give this crap away ya know...
