Get your MS Win8.1 refresh ISOs - updated in Dec.

What if I told you... they do? Windows 8.1 was RTM in October 2013, in April 2014 an updated installation image was released, and in December they released another updated image. You can use Microsofts media creation tool to always get the latest 8.1 image released. I'm not sure if it includes later versions of .NET (4.5 in case of Windows 8.1), but it still helps a ton.

I saw this in another thread, and thought I would post it as an independent thread for more visibility.

Like probably many on this forum, when the original thread about the MS Windows 8.1 refresh media creator tool link showed up, I downloaded all of the various English-language ISO versions. (Just in case I find someone that needs a re-install, and needed that version of 8/8.1.)

I wasn't personally aware that they refreshed the refresh media ISOs in December 2014, until the quoted post above. So I'm downloading them again. The first one I downloaded, did compare differently to the one that I downloaded before, so I take that as a sign that they were indeed updated.

So have at it, get your refreshed refresh ISOs! 🙂

Don't everybody download these at once now... 😛

I downloaded the first three, and they took around 1.5hrs to download each, now my fourth download took like 9 hours so far and still hasn't finished.

Thanks! Count me in... now if you had a legit keys # to share with everybody 🙂 😀 they you would see speed going down the drain even further.

Forgot to mention, when I got this, it was 3.27 GB (3,515,875,328 bytes).

The old ISO I had was a bit over 4GB...

Anyone else notice this?

Good thread, just in time for my new SSD.
Hopefully won't have to sit through hours of windows updates now.

Thanks for the heads up.

WSUS offline won't take as much to get a fresh installation up to date now 😀

Yeah. I have 64 and 32 bit ISOs with the update 1 integrated (en-US) that are earlier than the april 2014 refresh, got them from MDL forums in a thread that linked directly to MSDN, weighting 3.83GB and 2.86GB for the 64 and 32 bits versions... the ISOs this tool downloaded are 3.27GB and 2.53GB for 64 and 32 bits.

Lighter is better! I suppose these have less duplicated files, or whatever. I'll give them a try later in a VM, if WSUS offline installs less updates on these, then I'll keep them.

edit: Well, the april and november 2014 refresh updates didn't install... about other 20 updates were skipped, too. These ISOs are keepers! Lots of time saved.

I'm checking the iso before burning and my iso is the same size but I have different hashes. Windows 8.1 pro 64 bit US English.

Edit: I didn't download the single language version. Perhaps that is the difference. I'm downloading it now.
Edit 2: Nope, the single language is bigger.

How does this work if your Win 8 key is an upgrade key? I had a WinXP OEM and bought the Windows 8 Pro upgrade for $30 deal when it first came out and am thinking about a fresh re-install.

Did a fresh install a few weeks back, used my Win 8 upgrade key, on a fresh formatted SSD (Did a secure erase).

No problems using the key , and activated windows ,without the need to change MediaBootInstall in
the registry.
