Now that Boehner is threatening to send the US into default if he doesn't get his way, make your predictions for the peak price of gold between now and October 18th! As I type this the spot price for gold as reported by Kitco is US$1313.50.


The member who guesses closest to the actual peak spot gold price between now and Oct 18th will win a GENUINE GOLD colored picture of something GOLD drawn by Ironwing.

The cutoff for predictions to be submitted is Oct 8, 1200 PDT. All predictions must be made in US$. Predictions made in posts edited after the cutoff will be disqualified and the poster ridiculed.

In the event that I win, I'll draw myself a picture.

True. I take that back. I don't think we'll taper this year and I don't think we'll taper until 2016 because Yellen is likely to become the next fed chair and she's even more of a loose cannon with the QE gun.

It depends on how they default. If they repudiate the debt, then the dollar will be worth a lot more... assuming that Congress doesn't stop the huge deflationary depression by printing money. But if they service the debt by printing more money, then the dollar devalues.

It's not the 18th yet, but with talk now of a compromise being negotiated for a temporary debt ceiling raise, I'm thinking the short run on gold is over. If so, the high was 1328.30 @ Oct 8th

After some thought I have made my decision.

I envision a picture of planet earth, upon which I stand. A massive version me, I am as tall as the earth's diameter. Off to the side is the golden sun, yet this golden sun is hung from a golden chain around my neck--it is my medal. My poise and face tell the tale of a strong and courageous, yet also merciful and humble man. I stand upon the earth not a conqueror but a shepherd of its people, much loved. They will weep for a hundred years when I pass from this world to the next.

I am really striving for the majesty we typically see in the official paintings out of North Korea of the Il Sung dynasty.
