UPDATE: I've just found the name for the rumoured G1 replacement to be G1 v2 among webfolk and from which found a slew of information. G1 v2 in Android Roadmap

Best photo I've found Looks SWEET! but if it comes out this fall, when will it arrive in Canada??? Does it have a 3.5mm headphone jack?

I've been drooling over the G1 ever since it came out almost a year ago but frustrated that it was only in the states. Now almost a year later it is finally being released in Canada on the Rogers network. But I keep hearing the rumors of newer phones being right around the corner, the G1 isn't new anymore.

I'm going from a really old Samsung phone that was outdated when I got it. This will be my a big leap that I've been dying to make to a smart phone. My contract has expired and I will have to switch carriers no matter what. I want the best on the market available.

I hear the new HTC Hero (G3) will not have the sliding physical QWERTY that the Dream (G1) has, so that is sad, and the Magic (G2) doesn't have it either.

Can you tell me, based on my likes about the G1, if another one that has the some or most of the same features but better/improved/faster/longer battery life is on the way in the next couple of months? NOTE: it must be comming out in Canada in the next couple of months.

I like: physical QWERTY (a must!), large touchscreen, trackball, fully funtional web browser, GPS, plays movies, MP3 player, 3.5mm headphone jack (the only thing the G1 doesn't have) err I think that is most of it.

I will consider the Pre but is it in Canada or when does it arrive here?

Thanks

There aren't too many phones newer phones that have a big touchscreen AND a physical keyboard, so I say the G1 is a good one for you. The palm pre IMO has a terrible physical keyboard. It's in portrait instead of landscape so the buttons are incredibly tiny. I can't imagine texting very well on this: http://www.palminfocenter.com/.../palm-pre-hw-imp-4.jpg

DT reports that 18 new android phones are comming out in 2009, so in the next 6 months. How many of these will be released in Canada in the same timeframe?

What are some of the new rumored phones that are currently known? (android or not)

I know of the Samsung 17500 (I think) and the HTC Hero, iPhone 3G-S is already out.

I've used it. I have fat thumbs so it's not for me. A friend of mine has it and loves the keyboard. He texts faster on it then on an iphone.

Darn it looks like if I got the G1 now i'd be stuck with a 3 year contract with Rogers, so if a better phone comes out, I will have hold on to this one for a long time before getting a new one. :( How much would it cost to upgrade my phone after 1-2 years instead of waiting the full 3 years?

btw the 3 year contract is $149.99 for the phone + $64.45/month plan ($35 one time hook up fee). At least the plan is only $8 more than my current plan on my current sh1tty phone.

That's about what I expected. I've got bigger hands too so have never liked palm products.

About the iPhone texting... It sucks now for bigger hands, but in a few days when the update allows landscape texting it'll be so much better. I'm posting this on the phone right now in landscape and greatly prefer it.

Yah that actually has what I would consider to be the perfect design and form-factor, I also love that it has a track ball, however, and does it have all the software features of a full smartphone like the iPhone, G1 or Pre? and is it touch screen as well?
