So, tonight (in a little short of two hours, you can see the timer here: https://www.megabots.com/ ) the first ever match of mecha vs mecha will be shown on Twitch, here: https://www.twitch.tv/megabotsinc

On one side, representing glorious empire of raising sun, is Suidobashi Heavy Industries, and opposite them representing the Republic Of WalmartUnited States is Megabots Inc.

The question is simple:
who%2527s%2Bnumber%2B1%2Bwheat%2Bresized.jpg

This ain't your typical Robot Wars; this will be a match between two 8-foot tall robots, with a pilot inside, projectile weapons, no restriction on weight, power, or design.

yes you want to watch this.

wuuuuut

I'm in! And obviously, 'murika. Duh.

But damn, curious on what's truly allowed when they are apparently actually piloted by humans. Or more specifically, at which point do they call victory?

I imagine, some day in the future, we'll have this, but it'll be true gladiator style. American Football is in a decline, and perhaps rightfully so due to the widespread CTE. We'll need some kind of violent sport to keep the masses satiated, provided a venue where our tribalism can run amok.

this sucks ass - sweet idea, execution is lacking

There aren't even any splosions. It ain't a mecha duel unless things go boom.

Take the pilots out and go remote control: until we are prepared for gladiator combat where there will be blood and guts spilling from cockpits, this is too safe to be entertaining. Battlebots is far more riveting than this hot shit.

I didn't bother seeing it. I figured the gap between the hyped expectations and the reality of utter lameness would be extraordinarily large. How was it?

i only watched the first 3 matches, due to A) the show starting at 4am local, and B) being way worse than the expectation.

basically the Suidobashi guy showed up with a glorified gokart with a battering ram stuck to it, while the Mmuricans had a proper moving robot with two independent grappling arms, a massive chainsaw, a rocket launcher, and the advantage of "it actually works". It was a slaughter.

It's ok though. It's the first. In 30 years we will be looking on these people as pioneers. Maybe.
