🙁

UPDATE: False alarm it hasn't passed yet in the Senate.
Editor's note: In the following article, msnbc.com erroneously reported that the California Senate passed legislation that would ban plastic shopping bags. The Senate has not passed the bill; it was read for the first time in the Senate on Thursday and is now before the Senate Rules Committee, according to the office of the secretary of the Senate.

5/23/12 L.A. bans plastic bags, .10 for paper bags...

eh, you don't use any bags when you buy shit at costco, wth would I need it for the local grocer? I hate that employees are trained into zombies that will put everything you buy, even just a pack of gum into its own plastic bag...completely unnecessary.

Spend $2 in reusable bags?

"The goal is to reduce their accumulation, but there are those who argue some can't afford to pay for paper bags. "

lololol

If you can't afford a 5 cent paper bag, maybe you should 1. pick up a plastic bag off the ground or 2. not be shopping

i get asked if i want the gum to put in my purse/pocket right then.

also, they ask if i want milk, juice, laundry detergent... stuff like that bagged or not.

so, i guess the zombie baggers/cashiers where i shop are more conscientious and alert.

I kinda wish they had this kind of policy around here. I hate seeing the waste from workers putting a freaking pack of pens into a double plastic bag.

Anyway, from what I've seen in other countries, this works well. People do still use plastic bags but many have transitioned to reusable cloth bags.

Yea, that's screwed up. Supermarkets do not entitle you to free plastic bags. If they charge for them, you pay them. Or you bring your own bags.

STFU and buy cheaper shit.

Well it's more like you HAD the OPTION to use plastic bags/bring your own bag. Now you can't even have that choice.

same around here.

I have reusable bags I bring with me whenever I go shopping. After a while of using them I actually like them better, as they are a lot more durable than typical grocery bags and I can typically fit more in each bag.

I personally believe we should pay extra for things that are environment unfriendly and we dispose off with in trash, specially anything made from plastic.

Price of bags is already built in their prices of grocery items, just like luggage transportation had always been built into the price of tickets. It's a money grab, nothing more.

well, i personally have everything put in plastic bags if i forget my fabric bags, i do save up all my plastic bags and put them in the recycling container in the front the grocery store. (last time it was like a 100 gallon bag of them =P

You are probably the only one. Well, I do it too but I tend to use my plastic bags to line small trash cans. Otherwise, I use reusable bags to grocery shop, definitely more durable, carries more stuff, and easier to carry.

I'm 100% for it. It isn't hard to take in reusable bags, and it'll finally eliminate the invasive species blue bag tree.

WINNER

they could accomplish the same thing by giving an equivalent discount to shoppers that bring their own bags.

i understand they want $$$$$, just don't rape me then act like you are doing me a favor
