I've got a real problem with this type of sh*t. You are essentially being enlisted to spy on the employees. Maybe there is a problem, maybe there isn't. Enlisting little nazi Jack's to spy on what is or isn't going on is one screwed-up way to treat employees.

Alot of companies are going this route. Mystery shoppers are what they are usually called. It can't be a pleasant experience to find out that you've been criticized by somebody and you have no chance to counter the criticism via questioning the person, who remains anonymous throughout.

It's incredulous to me to think that these companies will rely on the observations of a "mystery guest", who is getting paid a freaking cheeseburger, to form opinions of their employees. I know Jack-in-the-Box employees might not be at the upper rung of the food chain, but jeez, where do these "mystery guests" reside. Sorry for the rant, but this is b*llsh*t.

I haven't eaten fast food in 3years. I feel so good you have no idea! They couldn't pay me $100/burger to eat there. It was the best decision I ever made (after I nearly DIED from eating at BoogerKing). I have a lot more energy in the day, sleep much better at night, etc, etc.

I swear fast food (even the veggies) are made from grade F stuff. They won't even feed it to animals.

Uhhhh, I used to be a regional exec for a large restaurant chain and I have to disagree with the above poster. Mystery shoppers are a great way of seeing how the customer is really being treated. If I go into a restaurant, the place leaps to attention like we are in the military or something. Of course when I am there service is great, but when I leave the problems develop. If you are doing your job and taking care of business, why are you worried about a mystery shopper coming in? They should have good things to say!! The employees that are screwing around are the only ones that should worry...:)

What diablonhn said...

*sigh*....Jack in Box cleaned up their act after the ecoli incident, in fact I prefer their stuff to those stale burgers at burger king, and to those dry ones at McD's...

BUT NO one comes close to In-n-Out...

I totally agree with that...An if your lucky you might have a fatburger around too

did you know there is a drink called Jack in the Box:

Jack in the Box

Ingredients: 1 ounce Ever clear
1 ounce sauerkraut juice
1 ounce clam juice
1 ounce beer
1 teaspoon anchovy paste
1 teaspoon limburger cheese

"Jack in the Box" derives it's name from the slang word for venereal disease, (Jack), and the nickname for a vagina, (Box). This drink does stink, but is said to be tasty and best cure for a hangover.

Mix all ingredients except beer and blend on high. Add beer and mix with a spoon. Serve in a tall glass.

this prob has nothing to do with the resturants, just a fyi.

Jmman, you missed the point. Why would you trust what a mystery shopper, getting paid cheeseburgers to fill out a form,any more than you would trust your employees? Who is going to check on the mystery shopper to make sure they are doing their jobs correctly and not just filling out bogus reports? Perhaps they don't like somebody, whether justified or not. You need to pay close attention to what emonkey says in his post. I'm not saying he did anything wrong but when you read something like this;

<< It was kinda cool at first because you can have your revenge on those bastard jerk employees >>

doesn't it open your eyes a little to the type of damage that could be done to somebody by a mystery shopper who wasn't neutral in their approach?
And that is my point.

<< . If you are doing your job and taking care of business, why are you worried about a mystery shopper coming in >>

Same answer as above. Because how can you be sure of the fairness and/or accuracy of the mystery shopper? You are assuming that are no mystery shoppers who are prejudiced, etc. And again, the basic question; Why would you trust what a mystery shopper earning minimum wages would say or report to you any more than what your own employees would say?

ThatPatioGuy and Stanman,

I love those posts, I think the title SAYS "Get paid to eat at Jack In The Box". So you are being offered to get paid to eat there.

Mystery shoppers are simply one of the many tools that are used to evaluate customer service and the overall experience of a restaurant. Mystery shoppers also are usually not just any warm body that walks in and asks for free food. If you actually read the requirements, there is an extensive training session on how to correctly evaluate a restaurant, and how to be more observant on how the operation is running. Futhermore, in my operations teenagers or younger people are not used as mystery shoppers. Senior citizens are the prime candidates for mystery shoppers because they are simply more responsible and take their duty to evaluate seriously. Mystery shoppers are used extensively in many industries because they are one of the better tools on getting a glimpse of how customer service appears to the average consumer. Who else is better to judge your business than one of your customers? They are who you are striving to satisfy, no? This is not to say that problems never arise. If you truly have done nothing wrong, why worry about it. Any lastly, how many times does one of your employees tell you that they just gave a customer crappy service? I haven't heard that one yet in 15 years....:)

I ate at a JITB once when I went back to San Diego to see some old Navy buds, I was sick as hell for 3 days. Then I went back again. The food is sooooo good, it's almost worth death! :)

Warning, Eating Jack in the Box may cause Death. Induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical attention. It is safer to sleep with Russian amputee prostitutes. You may just want to volunteer to test a vaccine for AIDS, at least you will have a few good years left. God help you if you eat that poison. But hey, I love their ads.

I had JITB last night, I go there once every month or so because I can't handle the indigestion that well, and the sodium amount in their food is nuts, so is fat content. But once in a while, you have a craving...for jack in the box and only jack in the box.

It is nothing wrong to used some kind of metric to measure how organizations are doing. Everyone want to know how they're doing and how they could become the best in their business, right? But you should not used the results to punish/reward your employees. Wrong way to used the results.
