Need to add an addendum that you need to be aware of what you are voting for before you vote...

Exactly. Voting just because everyone tells you that you have to is much worse than not voting at all. If you really don't care (like I don't), then just don't vote.

Thats lame. You only don't care because you have the privilege to live a comfortable life in a materialistic society. If you were in a country with a civil war, genocide, or rampant poverty - you would loooove to vote.

And we can talk about hypothetical situations all day. The fact is, which politician is in office as governor or whether gays can be married has very little impact on my life. I just don't care.

If you don't know anything about the issues or the candidates, then just stay home, please.

I work with too many people who puff out their chests with pride for having voted, when they don't have a friggin' clue why they chose certain candidates.

The guy in the next aisle just told me in the break room he voted for the current State rep instead of the chalenger. I asked why, he said because the challenger wants to raise taxes. I asked where he heard that, the answer was in a direct mailing from the current rep.

In fact, the challenger's entire campaign has been about LOWERING taxes. The incumbent studied the challenger's plan, found that it raised taxes for the top 1% of wage earners, then launched a smear campaign saying the guy wants to raise taxes. The challenger's plan would lower taxes for all retirees, and those making less than $80,000 a year.

So I pointed this out to my co-worker, and he got mad at me. Go figure!

I voted before work this morning. Instead of going in and "blindly pulling levers" why don't you take 30 min to read your local paper or do a quick google search for candidates in your area? Voting is more important than posting on ATOT (atleast it should be).

I'm in michigan and we are voting on Affirmative Action today. This will be the first time I will actually go out and vote (25). With the removal of Affirmative Action, it will be nice to see equal treatment between the races after so many years.

If you still have time and are undecided, many of the League of Women Voters sites have fair analysis of the ballet options. That is definitely true for lwvga.org (Georgia chapter). You can find a state chapter here.

Hmmm...

Should we let crooked politician #1 or crooked politician #2 run our government?

IMO, it is an illusion that voting makes any difference in this day and age of professional politicians and professional lobbyists.

What would you stereotype them as?

Why do you want to stereotype? Some are lazy bums, yes. I've met many who are very smart, active within their community, and know more about politics and political history than most of the people running for office.

Non-voters are free to not vote. They just need to learn to not bitch about who (or what) gets voted in.

Thats my thinking as well. I waive my right to vote because I just dont have the time to educate myself with the whos and the whats in politics. When I graduate from Grad School, then I shall vote because I will be able to devote the time necessary to read about issues, stances, and general politics. Me going out there and blindly voting not only ruins it for those who did spend the time to educate themselves, for all I know, I could accidentally choose some idiot who just breaks everything.

People were amazed that I didnt participate in the presidential vote. Frankly, I could not bring myself to have to choose between someone who is wishy-washy on issues or someone who just plain sucks it up. Both choices would have sucked for being a good president anyways.

Thank goodness, a voice of reasoning. IGNORANT people should NOT vote. If all young people voted Britney Spears would win a race for senate.

There's nothing more annoying than people wanting people to simply vote blindly and without doing any research. What good can possibly be had if 19 year olds were to fill in random bubbles down the ballot?

Thanks all you non-voters. Makes my vote count a lot more.

You don't have to vote on every single open position on the ballot. Just skip the races you don't care about.
