Get HD4830 or wait for HD4770?

who knows what will be better, the clocks should be about the same, memory will be about the same the 4770 with 128 bit with GDDR5 and the 4830 with 256bit GDDR3. the 4770 should oc better due to the die shrink but untill its been out for a few weeks it will be hard to get a feel for it. if you need to buy today or very soon i would go for the 4830. otherwise wait a week or two till some solid reviews from trusted sites come out.

I'll bet 4830 will be deeply discounted around this time 4770 launches.

Then two weeks later a non-reference design 4770 is supposed to launch.

I would probably wait. The price discrepancy will probably be worth it to go 4770. Supposed to be one hell of a value card.

I'd wait. I have an HD4830 and it's a real nice card - overclocks well and very quiet. I'd wait a few days, though, and see how the R4770 performs, and it's price. We already know that it's performance is between the HD4830 and HD4850. Or, about the same as the HD4830 with 800 stream processors. It seem like a nice card, but I doubt it will go below the $99 MSRP, so a low-cost HD4830 might be a better deal.

i was at frys today and its already for sale... of course it was at the typical inflated frys regular price. $129.99 for a diamond 4770

Fry's has them? I know where i'm going tomorrow. 🙂

wow.... its 132 dollars CAD and the hd 4830 is only 109 CAD I guess i'll get the hd 4830. I don't think the extra 23 dollars is worth it

4770 is out today, $99 after MIR and it's faster than the 4830. Check newegg, I just ordered myself one this morning and it's already shipped.

Edit: Nevermind you're talking CAD.

is it possible to OC 4830 to 4770 speed?

The 4830's OC very nicely. My Sapphire 4830 hits 750/1000 (up from the stock of 575/900) and most of the other brands OC well too.

I'm looking forward to the reviews from "Overclocking Websites" that show how an OC 4830 compares to a 4770, and how an OC 4830 compares to a OC 4770. I figure that a OC 4830 probably matches or is slightly better than a stock 4770, but I'm interested in seeing how a highly OC 4770 compares.
