Thanks Vivyip for letting me know about the bonus! It is an in-branch deal (you will have bring an email coupon to a branch when you open an account).

Terms:

Offer valid from 10/1/2006 through 12/31/2006. A $100 minimum opening deposit of new money (money not currently held by this bank or its affiliates) is required to qualify for the reward. Limit one personal checking account-related award/premium per customer, per calendar year. Offer not available on account conversions or in combination with any other offer. Chase Free Checking has no monthly service fee when you have a monthly direct deposit. Checking account must remain open for six months or the bonus will be debited from the account at closing. Account is subject to approval. CASH BONUS IS CONSIDERED INTEREST AND WILL BE REPORTED ON IRS FORM 1099-INT.

Sounds good. I would have apply for this if not for fact I couldn't find any ATM or branch within 30 miles radius of my house. Otherwise it's no minimum, free online bill-pay, and only requires monthly direct deposit. Even if you deduct the cost of the check book it's still $90 or so in cash for six months.

I'm not sure on Chase's Checking, but I have a CC through them and their online banking and statement service is TOP notch. Able to change address, contact information, etc. online and it be in effect in a day. Bank of America says it takes a business day, but in the few times that I've done it, I've had it not take effect for a week. I will consider this.

agreed. I have multiple banks and Chase definitely has the best online presence. It even gives you the ability to change your ATM preferences, which for example would or would not not give you a receipt or add a button on the initial password screen for whatever amount you frequently withdraw to save keystrokes.

do you apply for the account online then take the coupon to them or do you get the coupon, take it to them and apply at the branch? They haven't emailed me the coupon yet.
