On the flipside, I shred anything tax related more than 7 years old. You're required to keep 7 years worth of data and no more. However, if you have more than 7 years, they can audit it.

if you file a fraudulent return there is no statute of limitations

Hopefully they've changed it since I've dealt with them but INS (BCIS/USCIS/whatever the fuck they call themselves nowadays) wouldn't accept statement printouts from my bank when I was doing the paperwork for my wife's green card. They wanted original documentation only.

Original > facsimile/copy > e-mail > print out.

That's why you really should keep all statements as mailed, they count as originals as they were delivered by mail. I'd rather rely on my proof then somebody else maintaining my proof and then having to ask them for said proof to be used against them.

When it comes to money, you don't want to rely on somebody else to take care of it for you.

Audits don't work that way...

They can go back up to 7 years, but if they find fraud they can go back further. The onus is on you to prove your filing.

I'm willing to bet you can go back farther for a "fee". Banks are all about fees.
I called them, in fact I was on hold when I made the OP. I complained to the CSR that I couldn't see more than 120 days activity whatever I clicked. She tells me I received an email around the beginning of the year with a link to the last year's activity. She asked me to look for that email. I said "hold on, I'm looking," I have a big inbox. I find the email searching on "chase." I hit the link and eventually have the PDF open and I save a copy to my machine. I ask her why on earth they don't have a way to find it at the site instead of having to mine my email data. No answer there, but I have what I need and thank her, print it out and it was absolutely great to have that document when doing my taxes yesterday. Everything's organized into type of transaction, so all the grocery stuff was together, all the medical/dental together, entertainment together, etc.
