yeah, that's why i'm going to bestbuy today and picking up a samsung dvd711 for 179.. hey not really that cheap, but plays cdrs and got jog shuttle yadda yadda, i've given up looking for hot DVD player deals, i've searched around and tried out a couple, (jvc and panasonic) maybe i'll get it right with the samsung it retails for like 249 everywhere else, i usually prefer sony or pioneer, but they're too damn expensive right now, and apex just ain't cutting it for me.

*oh yeah toshiba is a good brand but i prefer the upscale model not the 1600

Hey--------

I'll second the Pioneer DV-333 from Amazon. I got one for X-MAS and it plays CD-R (both store bought and burnt at home on my Plextor) and CD-RW just fine. Of course it plays DVD's (HEAT and BLADERUNNER) fine too!

Well worth the $179 in my book! :D

I've got both the Toshiba SD-1200 and SD-1600. I've had no problems at all (although some complain the remote is a bit small). Of course, I don't try to play CDRs in the DVD unit, just DVDs, which all play fine (including Fight CLub and The Matrix, which some DVD players have issues with).

I feel I got a steal for $200, so $140 is a solid buy!

I got the 1600 on the MSN rebate for the zoom feature, and I haven't been disappointed.

I have the 2109 and the 1200 (the last two predecessors) and they are both great. I'm guessing that the 1600 is pretty much just like the 1200 w/a number change, just like the relationship between the 1200 and the 2109. Toshiba gives you the best value for the price...
