Get a new phone from AT&T for cheap!

So right now AT&T and HTC are both running promotions that are a pretty good deal to phone collectors. These companies are always doing trade-in deals that are usually pretty bad - but for now, they're temporarily guaranteeing $100 for any working phone that isn't ancient, and you can trade in multiple devices. Both AT&T and HTC are offering this (with HTC being more lenient with the phones). I traded in my old G1, Vibrant, iPhone 3G, and a broken Venue Pro for $325, netting me a new HTC One for $275 and some extra drawer space. Not too bad eh?

They did say maximum of $375, but if you could trade in more than one, that's super hot. I can probably max it up.

I did some quick searching on eBay beforehand, none of these were worth $100, and like you said, you have to deal with hassle/fees when you do it that way. So for me it worked out pretty well.

Presumably. I don't know if the $375 max is per phone or overall, but I didn't get that high - but even if AT&T maxed at that amount, you could combine with the HTC deal.

Deeko, please tell us how you traded in multiple devices. I don't see the option of doing this for HTC.

5 phones with the AT&T offer. I have no idea what HTC's offer limit is, I think it's only one. You can get $375 for trading in an iPhone 5 to HTC tho.

Yea I like it so far. It's a bit big for my tastes - maybe if the M4 pans out I'll swap it for that - but the screen is gorgeous, its fast, and this may be heresy but I actually like Sense 5 and BlinkFeed. Reminds me of Windows Phone (which I consider a good thing).

Yeah, I'm with you on the size. Just a little too big. Not so much that it's uncomfortable or anything, just that I would prefer it a very little smaller. 4.3 - 4.5" is probably the ideal and the M4 is probably the best size for one hand use.

I'm coming from Windows Phone, too (had a Venue Pro at one point along with Lumia 710, HTC Trophy, and Lumia 920), and I like Sense 5 and Blinkfeed. Smooth, fast, unobtrusive, and I'm appreciating the news feeds I set up. It's an expedient way to consume international headlines and tech news.

I wouldn't have switched to Android until Jellybean and hardware this good came along. I did not like the hardware and OS of the Gingerbread era and prior, though I started paying attention to Android when Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich came out.

Yea the One is a both thinner and not as wide as the the Lumia, which definitely makes it easier to hold and type one handed. Its too tall for me - I certainly can't reach the notification shade, and the new holo style menu button in the upper right is out of reach too. But, as long as I can comfortably type I will survive... Until the M4 comes out, presuming it's comparably high end.

Actually, HTC has already made the perfect size phone - the HTC 8x was just about the perfect combination of size and grippyness. Maybe we will see something in the future with that design - its too bad the 920 trounced it in every other way, causing people to not notice it, but I digress...

Yeah, I read some reviews mentioning the texture and feel of the phone.
I very nearly bought it off contract for Verizon, having used the HTC Trophy for over a year and being very happy with it, but the lure of the Lumia 920's camera was too great...

Anyway, HTC knows how to use plastic pretty well. Semi-soft, almost rubbery feel, but solid as well.
Their phones don't feel cheap even when they are. I think it's because they don't use gloss or clearcoat the way some other companies do.

I actually just realized later that what you did (and what this thread is about) is buying the HTC One from AT&T (trading in 3 phones), AND claiming the $100 back from HTC trading in another phone in addition to that. Is that correct?

Btw, are you doing the AT&T trade-in in store? I think that's the only way you can get the trade-in done in time within the 2-day window. Unless I'm misunderstanding something.

Yes that's correct. I traded in three phones in the store for instant credit, bought the phone there, and then submitted for the HTC credit online.

Not at all - it's a little tedious because they have to look up the value and you have you sign for a gift card for each one, but worth it.

Is there a promotion code that you have to use on htc's website? Anyone know what it is?

I probably have maybe 3 or 4 phones that I can trade in, should i be trading the best of those to htc?

I have 0 interest in buying a phone with a contract, but im assuming if you can buy from htc, you dont need to. If i can get a htc one for a good price im definitely in.

And about the htc one: Hows the community support on this phone? Ive also heard bad things about battery life (its still gotta be better than the gnex right?) Ive been on a nexus device for a while now, and the only way i would leave would be a super deal on a much better phone - so this might be it.

It sounds like they basically just give you gift cards (or at least ATT does). Unless they have an expiration I don't see what would stop you from taking the gift cards home.
