If this isn't pretty friggin pathetic... I dunno what is.

This is from an associate (an extremely cute one mind you) about racial profiling and things in general.

Keep in mind that she's Pakistani and Muslim. I don't know if it's PC to say she's white-washed... but read on...

I need some help writing an extremely strong reply to her... the problem with this one is this... she is very selective in what she reads... if you express a good and valid point that she has no reply to... she has the tendancy to overlook that part.

<< yeah, i heard about the man getting kicked off the plane (earlier 3 more were kicked off from northwest)...eventhough it sucks, i think it's understandable because all of america is scared sh*tless, esp. since they keep arresting more people in the u.s. who are connected with the attack...heck, i'd think twice about getting on a plane if some arab-looking guy got on! i think that we shouldn't be so sensitive right now and just take all of this in stride because there is still a potential threat out there...and, i for one, am glad that middle-eastern people are being scrutinized this closely since they do have a history...and if the fbi knocked on my door right now and started asking me questions i wouldn't care since i have nothing to hide...so if you're clean you shouldn't mind what's going on right now, and hopefully the situation will get better in the future as soon as the REAL threats start getting honed in on...

what i think is really sad right now is how many hate crimes are occuring on college and university campuses nation wide...you would think that these places are bastions of learning and knowledge and tolerance would be practiced here, but not so...the msa at ucla is huge and i'm sure that they've probably received their share of crap from ignorant losers...
>>

Don't you love the fact the chick can be selective? First she talks about how it's acceptable for the general populace and even corporate America to do this... then she says it's disgusting that it happens on Campus. Talk about hypocritical.

I wont bother posting my reply just yet... but this is what she says in response.

<< i totally understand your point of view, but, in my opinion, right now most muslims and 'mideast' looking persons can only use the constitution to wipe their ass... >>

Good work gurlee... I wont even justify this one with a detailled commentary.

<< 6,333 people have died, you think that racial profiling is not going to happen? it's happening already, even though it has not been officially legalized (and i don't think it will be)--it's still going to happen 'under the table' so to speak...you need to wake up and face this new reality...oh, sure there will be cases heard of discrimination etc. etc. but it's not going to stop racial profiling...

and the history that i mentioned regarding mideastern ppl--you yourself alluded to it when you said airport security got tightened in the 70's during the hijackings (btw, done by arabs) so i think that at the least you can say that their 'history' goes back 30 years...
>>

She fails to undertand that not only one group of people have died... many different kinda of people perished in this attack.

I never said anything about airport security in the 70's. I said that Islam has been in a negative light since the 70's.

<< and this constitution that you're so in love with was also present during slavery and the civil rights movement and it didn't save anyone...sure the actions and the thinking towards ppl were wrong back then as they are wrong at present BUT you have to keep in mind that today we are faced with a threat...people have lost their lives...anyone of us could have been at the WTC, or the pentagon or aboard those planes...and that scares me...and that's what i think about when i say that what the authorities are doing right now is ok with me...if you have nothing to hide (no terrorist connections) then don't worry about it, answer the questions or whatever...this is for ALL of our security and safety... >>

More consitution bashing.... I gave her a lesson about history... that the US was an agrarian based society back then... slowly making a transition to an industrial form... but given that half of the US was based on something that required cheap labor... the US declared something revolutionary in abolishing slavery... when it was full well known that such an act would cripple the economies of half of the Union.

I dunno what her deal is... but this chick is being awfully anti-american right about now.

<< get this, this is really something to think about---i went out last night and this kala guy started talking to me and asked me where i was from, so i said india just to avoid any political crap BUT right after i told him that he asked me if i was going to blow anything up! not only was he clueless about india but he just looked at my black hair and brown skin and felt that he had the right to say that, which i think was really ironic in that he was KALA!!! and after all that they had to go thru, it's really very twisted...i'v heard of other incidents where kala ppl have said things like that--i think that they're just glad they're not at the bottom of the barrel anymore!!! >>

I guess this is where we get to the "meat and potatoes" of the matter... for those of you that don't know... the term "kala" means black... it's the term used to describe African Americans... it holds no racial conotation.

BUT... her remark "i think that they're just glad they're not at the bottom of the barrel anymore!!!" goes to show her deep rooted racist attitudes....

After posting all this... I wonder... should I ever bother trying to educate a bigot of this caliber? I always thought she was pretty educated... but hearing these stupid remarks makes me think otherwise.

If someone wants to help me draft something that will decisevely shut her up... let me know.

i'm not going to say much, nor anything that will help, but--i had a 2 hour argument with my friends GF about this incident (me being arab her being white), and some of the crap that came out of her mouth disgusted me. it's amazing because the general population shares the same opinion, it's very sad.

She seems to have a good head on her shoulders and realizes what the state of things are right now. Why reply, your not going to change her views?

the hell?

she has rubbish and pointless views in her messages.... she only perpetuates bigottry and fear that need to be squashed.... not to mention she hasn't supported her argument with a single fact.

some of you people suprise me.... but then again... you'd probably be the ones discriminating against people of brown skin.

Dude, everyone is under surveillance nowadays, xyyz. Ever hear of the CIA, Carnivore, NSA, et al? I'm sure there are things going on that the American public can't even fathom.

While your friend may be a bigot, I believe racial profiling is a necessary evil in this situation. Also, you can't equate racial profiling with hate crimes. Attacking someone of middle-eastern descent is totally different from a law enforcement agency questioning that same person.

What's going on with racial profiling now in this country cannot be stopped. It's a NATURAL human reaction. When a woman gets badly raped, she most likely has problems with sexual intimacy with anyone, even a loving boyfriend. It's the same thing. When people are traumatized and are afraid, it's a natural reaction to keep ourselves safe and to make ourselves feel comfortable.

I suppose you agree with the idea of stopping all african-americans and latinos who drive expensive cars... because the unspoken "profile" of a car theif says that these two races cannot afford expensive cars.

Profiling is WRONG period... there is no excuse.... securty measures need to be increased, which is being done.

You can't look at 2 million people of arab decent... and say another 3 million Muslims because of the action of 50 people.

Boy, you must live in some kind of utopian dreamland there xyyz. :)

As pulse8 said, this is a very sensitive time, and everyone is watching their proverbial "backs" so to speak. The nation is jumpy and even though on the exterior they're united and strong, inside they're fearing that ANYONE can be another bomber, terrorists, or bad person. Racial profiling is the insecure(yet seemingly "safe" way, to them at least) method of providing some assurance of safety for the time being. This won't go away when the immediate crisis ends, or will it ever, I'm afraid. Some people's minds, just CAN'T be changed, no matter how logical your argument is.

Everything she said seems to be ok.

Why do you want us to give you some valid points in this argument? If you can't come up with your own feelings and put them down, then you shouldn't be in the argument at all.

It sounds to me like you just want to "show her what's up" and come off superior.

Write it your darn self!
