Here's an idea, though, which I would use, except I live in suburbia:

Buy Burger Bucks, and keep them on hand. When homeless people ask for money for food, give them a few bucks in Burger Bucks. They'll be all the more likely to use them for food, sicne people seeing a bum asking for money for burger bucks will either think he stole them, or he's a druggie. Either way, your money is at least not going towards drug addiction.

Anyways I've heard there are "bums" in Chicago who make 30k a year begging in Chicago then drive home to their house in the suburbs. :roll:

There are of course genuine bums who have had a life that deserves giving them a dollar or two...

I feel bad for those who are truely homeless and down on their luck but I think the vast majority of the bums begging for money are simply lazy, irresponsible, losers by choice.

They made it illegal for bums to beg for money on the street, at bus stations and after dark locally. It was getting rediculous seeing the same bum on the same corner day in and day out. City looks much better now. Maybe a few of them actually decided to get a job....doubt it though they probably moved on to greener pastures.

Heard the other day, I think it was the Jerry Agar show, where a woman was living about 45 minutes away from San Francisco was driving there every month to pick up her $300 check....San Fran gives you $300 a month if you are homeless...which will almost cover parking in the city

He could have been Paranoid and thought you were going to posion him. Maybe that's why he wanted the money he didn't trust anybody to buy him food.

PS: You should not judge all homeless people by one that didn't want burger king.

I thought the same thing. Then, I talked to some friends (this happened in '92) and they had similar stories. Besides, many people in this thread have confirmed many bums don't want food; they want money.
