Pacfanweb,

The first jet-powered aeroplane was the Heinkel He178. It flew as early as August 27th 1939. It was an implementation of the gas-turbine engine designed by the British inventor Sir Frank Whittle but preceeded the British implementation (the Gloster E.28/39, which first flew in May 1941). The first twin-jet fighter was the He 280, which first flew on April 5th 1941. The maiden flight of the Airacomet (Bell P-59) was only in October 1942!

It was mentioned in this thread that the German V series rockets were the first liquid fueled rockets (do we all agree solid fueled rockets have been around for centuries?) in the world. Actually, the first succesful liquid fueled rocket took flight on March 16, 1926 at Worchester, Massachusetts and was developed by Dr. Robert Goddard from Clark University. After the War, captured V2 rockets were discovered to be all but identical to those that were developed by Goddard. Although Germany did not have the first liquid fueled rockets they were indeed the first nation to completely realise its potential as a weapon of war and really pushed the envelope for its destructive application.

<< lol, half of the modern warfare machine were first developed by Germany, in both WWI and WWII, theyr'e the first to do chemical warfare, the first to use Submarine, the first to use airplace for attack.

And don't get me started about WWII, the first to use modern armor carvlary, I mean.. they WROTE the first Armor Calvary Doctrine, the first to use Jet Fighter plane, the First to use Cruise Missle, and the first to employ many of our modern military tatics, and they would've been the first to use Nuclear Weapon too, if it's not because Hitler was a Jacka$$.

Hmm.. Cruise Missle + Nuclear Weapon.. that means they could be the first one to have ICBMs, Computers, and all them other stuff.

Just think.. the free world ended up having all these things because on one very very fvcked up man.

But yes, German are very very advance.

>>

TRUE !!!!!!
Germans were the most advanced if you have solid proof come on tell us !! If not than please do not post nonsense like Britain was more powerfull. LOL

>>Actually the jet engine was invented by a Brit, sir Frank Wittle<<

The Egyptian developed ?Hero?s aeolipile? first jet, rotary, and steam engine over 2000 years ago. It is a copper/brass water filled ball with 2 bent tubes that is heated up to expel steam to drive an axle that pull open temple doors.

The first rocket engine was developed by the Chinese over 2300 years ago in the form of bamboo filled gunpowder, and was used as Chinese military tactics rockets since1045 AD.

There is evidence that the Chinese use rockets to repelled the Mongolian in 1232 AD.
"When the rocket was lit, it made a noise that resembled thunder that could be heard for five leagues -- about 15 miles. When it fell to Earth, the point of impact was devastated for 2,000 feet in all directions." NASA.

duke: How right you are!

During the beginning of the 1930s, German scientists and engineers consulted with Dr. Goddard quite often regarding liquid fueled rocketry. Toward the end of the 1930s they consulted less and less.

At war's end, Dr. Werner von Braun and other leading German scientists at Penemunde were captured by the Allies and of course interrogated. When asked how they conceived the designs for the V-2s, their reply was "why don't you ask your own Dr. Goddard."

The German contingent from Penemunde was allowed to immigrate to the US (more like kidnapped, then bribed and rewarded handsomely). Indeed, they were behind the technical expertise responsible for sending Americans into space and ultimately, the moon.

America wasn't alone in this either. In 1943, the Russian BI-1 rocket engine had a thrust of 1.5 tons compared to the 30 tons of the V-2. The Soviets finally captured the German's mirror faciltiy near Debice, Poland in September, 1944. By 1947, they were well on their way to a successful program of their own. With other captured German engineers.

When NASA was competing against the Soviets in the race to the moon, the German engineers were reluctant to continue at the breakneck pace the Americans dictated for the Saturn V rocket program. The German method was to fully test and verify systems prior to actually implementing them. Time consuming, yet reliable.

The Americans took the risks of a shortened development schedule. And the rest is history.

You're right, Germany was not the only country developing liquid fuel rockets, but it was at the forefront. An innovation created by the Germans, however, was the complicated guidance and stabilization system in those rockets. To keep rockets from tipping during launch, the Americans, for example, used a cable attached to the base of the rocket. The cable prevented the rocket's from "slipping out" from underneath it. The german innovation was the use of complicated gyroscopes and thrust vectoring to accomplish the same task.

Too bad the US recruited top World Scientists to develop the A-bomb, or we would all be speaking German.

And how would a nazi victory have benefitted the U.S.?

Germany was actually ahead in technology during WWII.
But it was hitler who denied funding to get some of those projects off the ground.
The US was the biggest manufacturer back then and that allowed us to fight 2 wars (europe and pacific) at the same time.
Hitler was dumb enough to fight 2 wars(fronts) and look what happened to them..

The US fought wars on more than two front. Not only did they fight the Pacific and Atlantic campaigns but they fought the U-boats and provided lend-lease to many nations. I'm sure the US could came up with better technology if they wanted to but why rock the boat? They had equipment that work ed and worked well. They innovated to fill holes not to find a do it all wonder weapon.
