it's hard to pretend to pass unintentionally, unintentional is usually when like a forward kicks the ball it it bounces off the defenders foot and the goalie picks it up. Ultimately it's just the ref's discretion.

what the heck. did the rules change? I thought when a teammate passes a ball to his goalie, the goalie cant pick it up with this hands...

goalie cannot pick it up if teammate passes with legs. he can pick it up if teammate passes with body or head. 🙂

yea. but im pretty sure i saw a costa rican kick the ball to his goalie and the goalie picked it up.

maybe im seeing things

When it comes to the feet it's basically ref's ruling on it... if you intentionally pass it with your feet to the goalie and he picks it up, it's a hand ball. If you unintentionally pass it with your foot to the goalie then you're safe... I use to play goalie... if you were unsure if it was intentional or not, it was best not to pick it up.

that still sounds unfair. what if the teammate pretends he passes the ball unintentionally?

Then the keeper simply cannot pick it up. He can give it a firm kick out into play instead. Hardly unfair.

Poor Costa Ricans... how would you like to draw not only the host nation... but a host nation that has the history in the world cup that Germany does... and how many previous world cups has costa rica been to?

That's true, but they certainly have a chance to make it out of their group with Ecuador and Poland being the other two teams.

LOL that was smart by that German guy to "fake" that injury and kill that momentum. He's right back in!

yeah that "injury" was good timing.

and i'm gonna argue that the 2nd costa rican goal didnt seem offsides to me. 🙂

it's 1.30am here, and I can hear my whole apartment block shout "Goal" everytime someone scores.... hehe. 😀

i wonder why americans don't like football.... is it cos there isn't enough rest time for them to go buy their hot dogs? 😛

goaall

BTW I don´t know if I´ve ever seen a team in the WC play as bad as Costa Rica and still score twice.

yes... very brilliant. from so far away... curled beyond the goalie's fingertips....

i nearly threw my laptop on the floor 😛
