English is a melting pot language. It has Germanic roots, but it's also strongly influenced by Romance languages.

yes it is. the function of words is based on word order, rather than word endings

I'd say Spanish is easier to learn, but I've never tried German.

Sorry, couldn't resist. English has some Germanic roots but Spanish is mixed in there too as well as French. Not to mention that all "Western" languages are based off of Latin.

vocabulary is, but english grammar isn't based off of latin. it's classified as a germanic language, rather than a romance language...

languages based off of latin (i.e. romance langauges) include french, spanish, italian, just to name a few...the usage of words is defined by word endings

I took 4 years of Spanish in high school, and 3 semesters of German in college.

German was much more difficult to learn, although part of that is because I was taking college-level courses compared to the high school ones I had for Spanish. That said, I still believe Spanish is easier to learn as German grammar is much more complex. Spanish grammar is simpler than English grammar I'd say.

I've spent quite a bit of time with both. I'm no expert, but Spanish was alot easier. And alot more boring.

German is more closely related to English than Spanish is. Both German and English are Germanic, while Spanish is a Romance language.

As you can see Schadenforh doesnt care and wants to be stuck in unilingual America while the hispanics are moving in. I'd say spanish you'd be amazed on what jobs you could probably get with speaking both english and spanish.

Spanish will be FAR more useful in the "real world" due to the large hispanic population in the United States. Bilinguality is a highly valuable job skill.
