Ok. And what about here? Does the approximate 8:1 ratio of AMD to Nvidia fans not bother you in the same fashion as the Nvidia fans did at THG? Or you don't notice that here?

Just asking.

No offense, Keys. But does that make you some sort of crusader then? You're a smart guy; I can see that. However, this thread is blatantly obvious. It's fooling nobody.

I guess he enjoys being used for greater NV good. 🙂

THG always reads like they've got an axe to grind against AMD

I don't know, if you read the article Keys linked the reviewer said there wasn't a noticeable difference in IQ in any of the DX11 games he tested. Said he was inclined to use high quality just to be sure all IQ elements are the same.

Actually I don't see that here. I see some balance. There are indeed rabid ATI and nVidia fanboys here (I could name a few from both sided), but the majority of people posting here are not brand specific.

Id say this forum is more pro nvidia than amd... but its not crazy out of wack, but there are alot more nvidia guys here usually.

Thread like this just naturally draws amd fanboys in it, to give our POV.

My PoV, testing default Nvidia quality vs High quality AMD is unfair, in that ll show the amd cards slower for no reason, people that look for the differnces cant notice them without zooming in a billion times on a picture and looking for pixeles off.

the band issue that they used to show case this is from a old game, where it might have been a driver issue for all we know, and these things dont show in newer games, yet somehow this turns into AMD HQ = NV Default => nvidia benchmarks better (agenda for makeing threads like this).

Well, I am usually an ATI fanboy (not AMD, because I think their CPUs really really suck) because I really like the performance/power ratio of ATI cards and really despise nVidia's business practices and their CEO. But that doesn't stop me from recognizing the work of nVidia engineers which I respect (from what I read they are worked like slaves).

The key to this was this:

AMD acknowledged to the Germans an image quality issue that was causing the shimmering originally reported by those sites with the 6800-series cards, even with High Quality toggled.

For all the clamoring of no differences from vocal posters rather listen to AMD or sites that investigate. AMD is trying to improve their products and listens. Extreme defenders cloud things, think conspiracy, point fingers and attack messengers, imho.

There were issues - Mip-map transitions and shimmering. Two areas that AMD has acknowledged and improving.

We need to petition all benchmarking sites to do this. Sacrificing image quality to fudge benchmarks is bad form.

Thread reported.

I can't believe you would make another one of these threads. Someone check guru3d to see if Following made one too.

Sad.

Thread-crapping is not acceptable.

Reporting the thread is fine, but that is where your interaction with the thread needed to end. You didn't leave it there, and now you have violated the posting guidelines yourself.

...the shimmering is not caused by quality setting... its a hardware/driver issue.

Only thing you really gain by forceing reviewers to use HQ setting is worse/unfair benchmarking results in favor of nvidia.

That is the main reason I don't read Tom's anymore. Too many nVidia fanatics. Too bad to see some of them move here 🙁

Yet they are one of the few tech sites around that use AMD CPUs for their reference system? To be honest, they have had some decent reviews in the past year. They are a LOT better than 7-8 years ago.

How can I be kept in the dark, when you admit in your original post that this is "old news?" Or is learning that THG is reviewing their games in HQ, which is something I thought they did already, news worthy? I guess it depends on perspective.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up! I look forward to more sites following suit.

Selective reading FTL.

"Old news" + "New info".

Yes, it absolutely is news worthy. First I've heard of it. So here you go. And you're welcome. ? 😉

Now, I did place a disclaimer in the thread title. Toms Hardware link inside. Sufficiently warning members. Now, in spite of this warning, you can plainly see that even people who believe THG is a highly biased site, did not bypass this thread and still thought it worth their time to come in and say as such.

Ahh... yes... lets make fun of AMD drivers, nice move by nvidia.

Jeez man its like bully tactics.

And it's actually a good tactic. If you ask around, the people's view of ATI is centered around bad drivers. If you go deeper you will see that this issue is around for many years without any change because of nVidia fueled threads on forums or in Fuad like articles.
If you actually ask ATI card owners you will see that driver problems are no more frequent in ATI's camp than in nVidias.
Both companies have pretty darn good drivers, but somehow only ATI has the bad reputation.

For me, desire awareness in a constructive manner so the IHV's may improve things moving forward. If one sticks their head in the sand and say there are no differences, it's nVidia's fault, the reviewers are bias, posters are bias and a conspiracy -- nothing improves.

The step has been taken and it is positive -- AMD acknowledges the evaluations and will try to improve things. This is great news because filtering may improve.

Said many of these views back when nVidia had questionable filtering, hardware aspects with the 6XXX and 7XXX series and did talk about the mip-map banding with the original Radeon with bilinear anisotropy on higher noise textures.

I for one don't mind this thread at all, this being an open forum and all.
If people want to buy ATI or nVidia and have half a brain in good conditions will do extensive research before making a 200+ $ purchase. I know I will. Multiple sources of information in all aspects of a GPU should be considered at all times. This is just one source.

Threads like this just want me to go back to buying Nvidia, and create DirectX samples which show how fucked up their drivers are... Something I've done in the past, and Nvidia had numerous issues with. Which is why I buy ATI exclusively these days. 2 can play this game.

Profanity is not allowed in the technical forums.

Yikes! You should edit out the F-bomb. Not allowed in tech forums. Just friendly FYI.

Oh wait, now fudzilla's articles are true? I thought all the postings over there were fake? Who's to say he didn't make this up?

Well Im done with Tomshardware.... it used to be a great site, seems to have gone to the dumps, their forums are dead, their articals/reviews arnt what they used to be.

How many remember those cool videos where he took off a cooler, from a cpu playing games to test fail safety mechanismes? Where you saw the intel cpu go down in fps and then shot down, but the AMD one because of old motherbord just fried! 😀 those where the days when Tomshardware was a decent site... gone downhill since.

@Firebird

"Oh wait, now fudzilla's articles are true? I thought all the postings over there were fake? Who's to say he didn't make this up?"

Your right... wouldnt put that past Fudzilla site either... and yet even I get lured there by links from other sites to his. Same story as tomshardware... I should just stay away from those places.
