Georgia Turning Blue

Fenixgoon

Lifer

not really surprising, but an observation/confirmation of demographic shifts - newcomers to GA are more likely to be liberal and are going to vote accordingly, pushing the state blue.

another interesting point is the discussion of the "growth south" vs "stagnant south" - TX, GA, etc. are high growth states that are turning purple/blue.

It's perpetually amusing when some conservatives mock California and shout "see, they're moving here..." and forget that this means their states are more likely to flip Democrat as a result.

That's part of why current Republicans are so reliant on gerrymandering, voter suppression and false claims of fraud. They know that it's increasingly likely they'll lose in fair elections, and that there's a real chance they'll never win a federal election again if they maintain their current policies. And somehow they've decided that it's easier to rig elections than drag their views into the 21st century.

This is the part that is crazy to me. Come up with better policies of you want to win. Conservatives in Europe and Canada don't deny global warming or fight religious battles (abortion). Actually, if the Republicans actually became more fiscally conservative and socially liberal I think they'd be winning in some of the blue states again.

Yet the entire reason they are leaving is because they observed that the Democrat policies that they enacted were complete shit so they abandon ship.

Yet they want to poison the well of a prosperous state like TX. So sad they can't manage to learn their lessons. Oh well.

A big reason people are leaving certain blue areas is because of high cost of living related to high real estate prices. People pay high prices for real estate because they are desirable to live in for what could be a variety of reasons, from geographic to cultural/amenities. And when most companies are moving to Texas, they move to Austin, which is more liberal than a bunch of Cali. I wonder why that is? More intelligent and most importantly, educated people, which are most desired and needed in our very services driven economy, tend to migrate to progressive areas, whatever state they are in. So companies go there to attract these people. I mean look at NC, all their biggest economic drivers are in the research triangle and Charlottesville, all voting blue big time. Get a clue.

Yep. Most people relocate due to work or family or to get to better schools and safer neighborhoods. Very rarely to people leave due to it being "too blue." So in the end, you are spot on about people bringing their vote with. Someone was mostly spouting nonsense again.

People do relocate due to politics at times though. CO Springs was full of conservative Cali relos. I think this is the exception, not the rule.

As MrSquished said... no, not really. The worst policy that affects them is San Francisco's reluctance to make changes for the sake of affordable housing. If you could buy a home in the Bay without dropping a million plus, many of these people would stay.

Besides, a large chunk of Texas' recent prosperity comes from "liberal" tech businesses, and the state knows it'll depend on them more as the oil industry declines. That's the thing — part of what frightens the GOP is the realization that some erstwhile safe states are turning purple or blue on a broader level.

When Covid hit there was a FB group created for folks thinking of leaving NYC for other areas to share experiences and get feedback on the whole process and on different areas. I joined to kind of get a feel for the situation. Just to understand what was going on around me.

Alot of people were concerned about moving to anywhere too red and full of regressive backwards ass thinking conservatives, wherever they were moving. Most folks moved to NJ, CT, NY State/Westchester/Long Island/PA but others moved to different parts of the country. 90% wanted to be in more progressive forward thinking areas. They weren't moving to Texas to go to some dumbfuck Republican dominated area that's for sure, and they certainly weren't going to start voting for regressive policies. They appreciate things like diversity in culture and background, they aren't worried about fake wars on Christmas or white male heterosexuals, they care about mass transit and public services and parks, etc...That's not going away.

A lot of what's coming to Georgia is due to the film industry boom here. Which means Hollywood is coming here. Which means liberals. I'm ok with that.

lol, you're too incompetently inept to know what high cost of living stems from. How cute. How about one of your peasants explain it to you from the VERY few that understands what that comes from eh @fskimospy ?

Hint - It's not evil capitalism, quite the opposite.

Bud, I have a wife and 2 kids. No single incel in this forum like the people who proclaim I have family that don't associate with me will make the slightest difference lol.

I have zero issues or faults with my family, I see them all the time all year long. But keep reading and believing misinformation, just understand I'm perfectly content 😉

High Property Values due to High Demand. So many People want to live there it has become too expensive for many.

Delusional schizophrenia isn't something to gloat about having. I do feel sorry for you.

Restrictive zoning laws are not something exclusive to progressive areas. There are many areas of the country, and I've lived in one, that are not so blue but don't want to allow anything but single family zoning. Everybody wants to hold onto their property value. This is not an exclusive mindset. In some areas it makes total sense - infrastructure can only support so much population. Especially in red areas, they have zero idea of what it means to have public transport and amenities. This is why when I visited Houston it was such a concrete jungle of shit compared to NYC in regards to public transport. Same with Dallas. In other areas it does make sense to allow more density, if you provide the supporting infrastructure. This is something progressives can sometimes have a hard time with, but conservatives? They are hopeless, they have zero shot of figuring this part out. Our only hope lies with progressive leaning people, this is why the vast majority of people leaving big cities bring this mindset with them and move to more blue areas and vote in the same way. They don't think like regressives like you.

Right. Totally. It doesn't have anything to do with prohibiting basic capitalism through laws and regulations that disallow mass housing buildings and a variety of other NIMBY laws. No. Not at all.

Blissful ignorance is cute. Especially when you try to tag it back to capitalism. You silly little child, if capitalism wasn't being inhibited, why wouldn't they have skyrise apartment complexs all over? What inhibits that from occurring?

But it's okay, thinking is hard to! Thus when prices are high it's all because of capitalism supply/demand and has NOTHING at all to do with the government rules and regulations that interfere with such capitalism. No. Not at all. Lol

You are really dumb if you think it's only leftists that are against things like zoning for more dense housing. You can find a zillion examples of conservatives living in single family zoning areas against anything else - they simply don't want anything else in the area - whether that stems from a fear of the coloreds and minorities moving in, or some factory moving in next door or just a simple fear of higher density housing lowering their property values. Are you really this fucking dense?

You have to be exorbitant levels of dumb to think even a noticeable amount of so-called free market capitalist Trumpists would be fine with someone plopping down a mid rise or high rise apartment building next to their single family home.

You were the one making this a Democratic policy thing vs moving to places like Texas (a red state)

Can you even keep up with your own conversation?

Right here, dumbfuck......a few posts above this one.

Of course you can't....you're a dishonest, deceitful, know-it-all yet know-nothing dumb fuck.

I don't think they can. It's part of the right wing mental inflexibility. Did you see the part in the presidential debates where Trump was comparing himself to Lincoln again, and then when Biden sarcastically called Trump Lincoln, Trump was really confused? He said, "why are you bringing that up?" Trump seriously didn't know why Biden sarcastically called him Lincoln. It's the same thing that Someone and the other right wing folks do. They get so wrapped up in trying to twist the message to fit a narrative, they confuse themselves.

People not wanting to live by certain things is a Market Force. The People have a Low Demand for such a thing and use their Elected Representatives to prevent such a thing. These are not External to Capitalism, they are one of the variables that determine Supply/Demand, Price, etc of a Product.

When it comes to California(or the West Coast in general from Cali all the way to Alaska)there are numerous Environmental considerations as well. Being on major Fault Lines with high risk of Earthquakes makes some terrain unsuitable for High Density buildings or you may want to control Densities in order to better respond to such a disaster. Another big issue is Water which is in short Supply. When you are already reaching the limits of Water Supply, increasing the Population does not seem wise.
