Georgia Teens Accused of Detonating 10 Small Bombs in Backyard

Not familiar with the process. Are the police going too far?
Five teenagers face felony charges after being arrested on suspicion of making and detonating up to 10 bombs in the backyard of a house in Snellville, Ga., about 25 miles east of Atlanta, WSB-TV reports. Snellville Police Det. Jim McDonald said the teens, ages 16 to 19, had made the small bombs using water bottles, bathroom cleaning fluids and aluminum foil.
He said officers found the remnants of 10 exploded devices in the backyard of the house.
"The container expands and pretty much just blows up," McDonald told the station.
Officers had surrounded the house with guns drawn after a neighbor rang police fearing someone was being shot.
The five teens face felony charges for possessing and manufacturing destructive devices, while two parents at the house will be charged with unruly conduct after telling police they thought the teens' bomb-making exploits were "harmless fun."

Kids can't have any fun nowadays 😛

I remember me and my buddies would make dry ice bombs and make them out in a giant open field away from anything, good times 😀

Reminds me of when I was a kid, my brother and I got into trouble for making vinegar and baking soda rockets.

Wow, talk about ludacris; the kids were just experimenting in their own backyard, having stupid fun. It sounds like there was no malicious intent, no property damage (other than their own) and on one was injured.

Of course you can always argue that I wasn't there, I'm being an armchair moralist, etc. but all it sounds like is that they were some kids messing about in the safety of their own backyards. At the worst the kids/parent should have gotten cited for disturbing the peace, and I would have expected a stern talking-to really.

That's pretty harsh, even the parents got a charge for a statement they made about the situation?

Since this is Georgia, I can only assume the kids were black. Jim McDonald would have let the 5 kids go if they were white.

Dry ice or pool acid + tinfoil in a 2liter bottle is the old 'acid bomb'.

They are dangerous.

Matchhead bombs are even more so because a spark can set them off.

The thing is, these are little more than noise makers. At worst a bit of tin foil might come flying out, but that's not going to hurt anyone. The only way to get injured from this is to stand with your face right next to the bottle.

Still, don't do this around neighbors, you are sure to piss them off eventually.

What the fuck. I suppose I'd be in prison for my potato cannon there.

id still be in jail for my crystal drano-gasoline bombs, black powder bottle bombs and .22 in a straw stupidity as well.

while the ones we made were a bunch more dangerous, the kids werent trying to make a bomb to actually hurt anyone or their property, they were messing around with small, fairly innocuous chemicals that amounts to a bit more than mentos in diet coke. i hope they all dont get harsh consequences. i should have, but these guys shouldnt.

I would be serving life sentence by now if I were charged with all the crap I did as a teenager.
This will get reduced to a misdemeanor, as long as the aren't life criminals.

I love the stark contrast between this thread and the "Kid Smoking MJ on the way to school" thread.

In this one everyone defends these stupid thuglife assholes that could have easily had malevolence on the mind.

In the smoking MJ on the way to school thread its, "OMG I would so tell that kids parents" "This is everything thats wrong with kids nowadays, smoking weed. OMG"

Yea. One can be used to harm others on a whim, the other cannot be in any conceivable way and will be legal soon any way. Burn the weed smoker at the stake
