What some have been calling a referendum on Trump, Democrat Jon Ossoff is currently leading with 50.4% of the vote against 17 other candidates. If he finishes above 50 he wins outright. Below there will be a runoff on June 20.

The 6th district went to Trump by 1% last year and Romney took it by 22% in 2012. Personally with Trump barely eking out the district I think calling it a referendum is a stretch.

The district has gone GOP for 38 years. The seat was vacated by Price joining Trumps admin as HHS secretary.

Old man georgia on CNN was waxing poetic about how crazy it would be for Ossof to get 50% as it was 50.1% and it rose to 50.4% as he did. His crazed overconfident ranting is pretty entertaining, although his accent is nauseating.

Eh, we'll see.
I hate how libs start creaming their pants thinking they might win some gamechanging election, then turn around, lose, then high five getting "close."

Hillary got close, but we still ended up with Trump.
Call me when he wins.

Ossoff's attrition should probably slow down a bit now that so much of Cobb County is in, but still tracking toward a 48/48.5 type finish

If this kid wins, I might run for Congress.

I live in a blue state, have all my adult hair grown in, and don't molest women or congressional pages. Then again, that may mean I'm overqualified...

Close matters a lot when a dem is running in a traditionally red district. As the 538.com chart posted above by Fivr shows, there are 37 districts held currently by republicans which are more left leaning than the Georgia 7. If Ossof even gets close, it doesn't bode well for the reps holding onto the House next year unless circumstances change a lot in their favor.

Well Ossof only got 48.6 so there will be a run off.

Donald is taking credit for the runoff on twitter.

I think this is great because the more that Democrats win the more America can blame them for all the shit that results from the GOP policy that gets implemented.

Keep calm and vote on. Force Republicans to spend time and money in "safe" districts like these.

No matter the spin, this isn't a good result for the GOP. It's better than Ossoff winning outright, but not by much. Deep Red districts are swinging drastically the other way due to the Trump factor. Imagine what the borderline/toss up ones will do ...

It's been said in other threads, but this is where gerrymandering will come back to bite them. Gerrymandering was meant to make underrepresented districts razor thin competitive. If they start to get competitive (especially through people flipping parties) gerrymandering starts to turn against the original intent.

What I really enjoy about this tweets is how he just gets BASHED repeatedly in the replies from followers. But like god damn Rocky Balboa, he keeps coming back for more punches to the face.

Dems failed in Kansas and are now failing in Georgia. Great job Karen Handel! It is now Hollywood vs. Georgia on June 20th.

Despite major outside money, FAKE media support and eleven Republican candidates, BIG "R" win with runoff in Georgia. Glad to be of help!

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump 21h21 hours ago
Just learned that Jon @Ossoff, who is running for Congress in Georgia, doesn't even live in the district. Republicans, get out and vote!

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump Apr 18
Republicans must get out today and VOTE in Georgia 6. Force runoff and easy win! Dem Ossoff will raise your taxes-very bad on crime & 2nd A.

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump Apr 18
Democrat Jon Ossoff would be a disaster in Congress. VERY weak on crime and illegal immigration, bad for jobs and wants higher taxes. Say NO
