Just heard that George Plimpton has died. He's a writer who joined the Detroit Lions a long time ago to write about it.

What goes on with all the celebrity dying? Then again this guy was no youngster.

WTF? Damn, I'm glad to have met him. He was one of those guys who could sit in a crowded noising bar, tell a story, and have the whole place be quiet.

We need more storytellers like him. Everybody today is either Oprah fodder or "look at me" attention whore.

Maybe it's just another one of his publicity stunts? We can only hope.
For those of you who weren't paying much attention, you might know George Plimpton as one of the psychologists Will Hunting visited in Good Will Hunting, and he took a number of bit parts and cameos in other movies.

He was also the "spokesman" for Intellivision back in the day. There was a great spot with him and the kid who played Elliot in ET where Elliot says "Hey, aren't you Intellivision guy?" And Plimpton slips him a copy of a hot new game and asks him "What's your name, son?" And the kid acts amazed that Plimpton doesn't recognize him.

Heh...

"He's a pitcher, part yogi and part recluse. Impressively liberated from our opulent life-style, Sidd's deciding about yoga ?and his future in baseball."

Yeah, I will surely miss him. A great showman and writer he was.

That SI article about the fast-ball pitcher was awesome. "I have learned the art of the pitch."

Yep, all the good ones are bidding us farewell now.

Let's try that editing thing again : RIP.

I read "Paper Lion" expecting to hate it - some hoity-toity Ivy League writer wants to play quarterback for the Lions and write about it? What a stupid idea. Except that it was a really interesting book. I'm definately a fan of his.

People get old, people die, new people are born, life goes on.
