Geometry Math Help!

Problem 36

I'm trying to help my sister figure out how to do problem number 36 in the above jpg. I'm no idiot, but i havent done geometry in 7 years.

Can someone explain how we can write this equation and figure out the answer? I want her to understand how to do it....so if you can list steps too that would be great.

Legendary is right, but you have to solve for x.

So if you have ABE + EBD + DBC = 180, you would come out with:

(9x-1)+(9x-1)+24x+14=180

I think you can take if from there, otherwise, let me know.

(wow, brings back some memories. it's been about 14yrs for me... I'm gettin old)

That makes sense...except where'd ya pull 180 from ???

**edit** nevermind...im an idiot - i see where 180 came from

Ok... If I remember correctly.... since BE bisects angle ABD the measurement of ABE and EBD is the same.... ok.... well that means EBD is equal to 9x-1. now what you do is you take 9x-1,9x-1,24x+14 and add them together getting 42x+12. Now equate that to 180

ABE = EBD

ABE = 9x-1
therefore, EBD = 9x-1
DBC = 24x + 14

9x-1 + 9x-1 + 24x + 14 = 180
x = 4

so 9x - 1 where x = 4 == 35 degrees

simple!
