Genuine vs. Compatible toner cartridge?

My trust litttle HP Laserjet 1020 is finally starting to run out of toner and I was wondering how compatible cartridges matched up against the genuine thing.

The compatible costs aroudn 30 bucks and the genuine goes for ~$70. Is it worth shelling out the extra for the real deal?

I never buy OEM. Have gotten probably 100+ carts from Monoprice and had problems with maybe 4, all of which they took back.

I've only been using compatible toner carts that the printer/paper guy gets for us at work.
Never had a problem yet.
