For the moment, I will not bother with all the websites, that show all the performance world records this CPU has, including the incredible efficiency. We can go there if needed. I am just astounded at the the performance and efficiency I am getting. So, quick facts:

1) I am running 12 primegrid instances, and the total CPU load is 42% in the 9654.
2) The CPU is supposed to take at the maximum 400 watts. (I will put a kill-a-watt on it if need be after the competition)
3) The performance at 2.8 ghz is about the same as 3 of the best configured 7950x's at 5.0 ghz, 12 units in 16 hours. The 7950x's do about 8 hours times 2 units, so 3 7950x's in 16 hours will do 12 units.
4) these 7950x's are taking ~200 watts each for 600 watts total vs 400 for the 9654,

Now mind you, I would have to put kill-a-watts on all 4 computers to verify these watts, but they are within spec. The RUN TIMES ARE ALL REAL. Also, these units use avx-512 extensively in this software. This is frankly amazing to me. Intel has NOTHING to even come close to this chip in performance or efficiency. Without flaming me, if you have any evidence to the contrary, please post the facts with links from reputable sites. All my facts are from what is RUNNING RIGHT NOW.

Not to mention, I am running the most pitiful heatsink ever, its loud, but a better one might even be more effective in performance. Only running 68c @ 42% load. 8000 rpm 80mm fan !

Also, if I was running @100% load, its very likely that the 9654 would equal 4 or 5 7950x's at ECO mode.

I feel the first 2 posts in this thread were written with me in mind and my own journey. Very interesting notes, Mark. I've been rethinking my plans ever since your reply to me about the price and discussions in the past, and @igor_kavinski suggestions while bizarre had some merit. I may be shooting myself in he foot here going with multiple 7950x systems and not one 96 core epyc. although with this new generation of amd professional hardware coming into nascent form I want to see what tr7000 rumors are like before sinking my money into the 9654. but as of now i've put a hold on my plans. a professionally inclined setup would afford me the lanes to run various accelerators and other tools I'd otherwise have to toil over during config setups.

cheers

Multiple 7950x's are good for many things, and not expensive, and fast. BUT if you need more PCIE lanes and more cores in one box, the 9654 is more efficient. Its hard to go wrong either way. I have 5 7950x's and a 9654, so the best of both worlds.
