I do not believe we were put here by ailens, but there are many out there who do think it is how it happend. And no we did come out of someone's ass.
 
If God created the Universe...then where did God come from? And what was here before God? If God marks the beginning of time, then what was before that? Why would time spontaneously begin when a non-existent being wanted it to? The same unanswerable questions remain for both sides....

I believe that humans were created as the result of a broken condom in the Big Gang Bang

my thoughts exactly, many people aren't purists when it comes to this issue. Lets have some options!

like "neither" and "both"
 
I'm not sure I believe in either Genesis or the Big Bang. Neither one makes sense to me, and neither is provable. Same with Adam and Eve versus Evolution. I completely believe in micro-evolution (for instance, the canaries in the galopagos evolving from one species into many, but there is no hard evidence that anything is a descendent of microbes and bacteria in the primordial soup. I am not religious at all, but part of me wonders if someone outer force is responsible for life on this planet.

Even Albert Einstein was not 100% correct, some of his theroys are being proven incorrect or slightly wrong. But I am by no means saying he was always wrong, we do know he was right about somethings. If I remember correctly, he also believed in god.

trust me on this topic -- 'Religion in an Age of Science' and 'The Existence of God' were 2 of my elective courses in university and I wasn't joking or trying to be short when I preach reconciliation between the two worlds. It is one of the conclusions we reached - however I can direct you to some very fine reading on the subject. I'm at work now, but I have all my old course books at home and I would be happy to provide you with a list if you are interested. Have fun debating! 🙂

Since the begining of this thread there has been the option to choose none of the above.
What are the other options, I know of none.

If you're referring to a modern chicken, then egglaying was already a biological part... egglaying didn't develop after chickens... but all chickens come from eggs. Therefore, the egg was first.
There was, at some point, a first chicken. That chicken necessarily came from an egg.

Oh, and since the bible is allegorical, who's to say that genesis and the big bang aren't saying the same thing??


 
From what I understand, the universe is expanding and the earth is a lot older than 10,000 years old. I have seen Hubble images of what was described as birth of a galaxy. But I really do not know exactly how everything started and if something started it.

Genesis and the Bible are faith based entities. Is faith enough? People believe in the Easter Bunny too.
 
The egg came first.
Since the question never specifies the chicken, or the chicken egg, it can be fairly safe to say the egg came first, as egg is generic.
There were almost certainly creatures which layed eggs before there were chickens, so the egg must have come first.

I noticed the thread title was changed.

Sega Genesis vs. the Big Bang - I'll take the Sega. Not too many titles out for Big Bang.

No seriously when you get into the Big Bang theory, then you are basically saying a "big bang" started everything, etc etc. The problem with that is, something had to occur in order for there to be a "bang". This is referred to as the "prime mover" - something had to 'move' to trigger the 'bang'. So the big bang theory is in effect debunked even before it gets started, because without something (or something moving) you only have nothing. You've intrigued me to get into my books on the subject(s) when I get home (the wife has been nagging for me to clean that area of the basement anyway) and I will try to get back with a more intelligent response, so we can conduct our conversation with more educated thoughts.

I recommend the movie Contact, for any of those who haven't seen it and are interested in the whole Religion/Science debate. As there is an online SETI community here however, I doubt many of you haven't seen it.
 
I once saw a gay (literally) produced play called "The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told" featuring Adam and Steve and Jane and Mabel. It was actually a very good play.
