Hey there,

Shortly after I start up my computer I get a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services" error. Apparently it has encountered a problem and needs to close. When I click on the error report, I get the following:

szAppName : svchost.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.2180
szModName : ipnathlp.dll szModVer : 5.1.2600.2180 offset : 00021453

The following files are included with the error report:

C:\DOCUME~1\Benjamin\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER0183.dir00\svchost.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\Benjamin\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER0183.dir00\appcompat.txt

Of course, when I send the error report I get no feedback from Microsoft. In addition to the error message my Windows Firewall will not work and the only sounds that will play are system sounds. I cannot play any other sounds on the system, not movies, not games, not music.

I've taken a pretty good look around and cannot seem to find anything helpful. I've run a AdAware Personal and Spybot to no avail.

Does anyone know what might be causing this error, or should I nuke it from orbit and reformat my machine?

There is a known issue around can allow others to perform a local (e.g. local network) denial of service attack against you. Are you by chance on a hostile network?

I'd better not be. I'm on a home network that I've set up myself.

Unless, of course, my wife is using DoS attacks to drive me mad...
