So for future democracies, what would be the changes needed to prevent this from happening again?

I think I’m order to answer that we’d have to define what caused the problems in the first place.

First and foremost it seems like money in politics was a huge factor.

Second, possibly a lack of representation was another factor and one that may have led to a rise in catering to extremism at the house level. Add to that to gerrymandered districts and you end up with a series lack of representation. Another obvious issue would be the reliance on the electoral college, another anti democratic idea.

Another factor I think was a lack of media and journalistic standards. It’s hard to tell what a solution would be but clearly the ability of an influential entity’s ability to spread either misinformation, propaganda, or half truths primed an electorate to be open to even more extremism.

Lastly and maybe even the most important, was a lack of focus on keeping the public educated. I’m talking about everything from not understanding how our government works to not being trained on how to discern truth from lies, propaganda, and half truths. An educated public, imo, is the greatest defender of democracy.

I think you did a pretty good job of hitting the high points. My top items would have been:

1) citizens united repeal/overturn; campaign finance refrom
2) gerrymandering; voting right protections
3) failure to modernize 2 out of 3 branches of the federal government. Both judiciary and legislative are woefully small in comparison to the size of the population they have to serve/represent.

If you really want to extend #3 to other "items" ( *cough* 2A *cough*) you wouldn't be wrong either.

All of this is just the greatest news imaginable if view from a different perspective. This isn't, in my opinion, the death of America but the death of the Republican Party. They have revealed their true inner ugliness and it will prove too much for people to bear. I think what we see in the country vomiting from a bad case of conservative madness and it's going to feel better once it does.

Oh ye of little faith!

Trump, and having people buy his shit, has shaken my faith. I only hope you are right.

They now have a website where you can report trans people and anyone who helps them. When will they have to start wearing armbands? Shithole state.

Well, it didn't last long, the form is now gone. We'll see where they go from here.

And above all of this ruckus these "religiously conservative" folks believe it's their merciful, compassionate and all-knowing God that's telling them to persecute their fellow human beings like the "sub-human vile creatures they are". I mean WTF ya' know? Well yeah, it's their thoroughly corrupted political leaders that are egging them on about this, but surely their religious leaders ought to know better than to exploit the political aspects of this issue in order to rally their sheeple around the Cross just as their political leaders are rallying these gullibles around a flag that was never meant to provoke racist homophobic yearnings.

Fucked up people being propagandized into fanatical brain dead tools all in order for those powerful influential folks who didn't get elected to run the country the way they can profit from it the most.

Don't see a good ending from that vantage point.

It's because people spammed it with fake requests. It was overwhelmed temporarily.
Believe me, I'm aware, I saw it being passed around various places for that purpose.
I only submitted a few special characters that tend to give Excel a conniption, personally.

Not sure what your point is. I lost both faith and hope. Most people via faith and hope create the conditions for love to blossom. If you aren't so blessed you have to go through hell. So I guess you can suffer pain in two ways. It takes tremendous effort to hold to faith and hope in this world and tremendous effort to defeat the Nothing that takes you if you fail. So having little faith is hell. You neither die not win. You just vegetate in misery. I think that is the basis of most depression.
