I know this is a bit rhetorical, but would it be a noticable diffrence if i were to purchase the geforce 6800gt over the vanilla? I mean, heck, 2006 if sli is still panned out i may spring for the next gen gpu and all but i figure this shuld hold me better than some minor upgfrades in the forseable future. slap in a winchester, gig or two of ram and here i come!

I'm thinking 6600GT myself since 1024x768 is good enough for me.

It really depends on what resolution and AA/AF settings you "must" have. Decide, then read the benches on HL2, Doom3, and Far Cry to see which card has enough power. (Though for HL2 nvidia will probably speed up all 3 cards a bit once they've had time to optimize their drivers like ATI already has.)

Probally wouldnt be a bad idea as it gives my budget more room to breaTH. i mean, cmon, eye candy, fluid gameplay at 16x12? that's insane and heck, i'd be flippin happy if i was clipping nicley, i mean sure, 16x12 would be nice, but mabey next down. anywho, get a cheap, but good card, make everything pretty and then, comes next year, sli hehe!

It also depends on what else you have in your system, the 6800gt will give a noticable differance, but only if your CPU can keep up.
