General Overclocking question

Will overclocking a CPU without increasing the voltage decrease the CPU's lifespan. I have a P4 2.8C @ 3.0 which I know is nothing but i have a terrible chip. Will this small overclock cause my burn out a lot quicker?
 
If its running hot yes if its running cool no!

if it ever goes over 50c that too hot 🙂 ... if you you can stay under that at all time ... under load and idle then u should be fine ...
Case fans do the trick ! Chance's are your powersupply will die befor your CPU does when you overclock 🙂 and by the time that happens you would have upgraded anways.
 
Actually if you can get stable cpu without increasing voltage that pretty good in my opinion.

To me a big part of cpu life is just making sure you check your thermal paste and contact (tight and secure) a couple of times a year, like 3 or 4... and check your cpu temp in bios... Most mobo's come with some type of health system monitoring program on the driver cd... Check it right after an intense graphics game... and see where you are at... try using a temp probe if you can get one...

I disagree...50c is not that hot especially if it is load...P4 chips will go to 66-70c before thermal throttling (a built in safety device) even kicks in.....Lets also remember many abit boards read 10c higher and so temps in a lot of the mobos need to be taken with a grain of salt....

IMO...I would want a cpu in the 40's or less at idle and never to succeed 60c....

If you are that hot you may be using stock cooler and stock thermal pad. Upgrading that plus using AS2 could help that...

CPU's worst enemies are high voltage (damages the gates) and heat ( I beleive intel even specs temps higher then 50c)...
