Here. Cars sell fine lots of places intentionally, the US market has moved away from them into crossovers/SUVs/trucks.

Which kind of begs the question if this is actually GM's strategy why they hell haven't they introduced an electric or PHEV crossover given their advantage in experience and technology? I mean Kia has beaten them to the punch.

Why are you giving him excuses for the brilliant plans that he promised that he had for everyone and that he would fix?

Is this a revelation you had back when he promised that these companies would build more factories and hire more people and you invariably believed him?
 
GM also said the steel tariffs will cost them a billion.

When you are a price competitive market and you can't pass on costs, you have to look hard for cost cutting measures.

Labor is a massive component of costs... So expect to see more of this as the trade war moves on.

Several factors in play here, importers Hynduai, KIA, Subaru, Toyota are still making and selling compact and mid sized sedans, they are putting a competitive product out there that GM can't match. Chevy would love for the Cruz to have the rep of a Corolla but it doesn't, the tariff war also has to hurt, China was a decent market for cars like the Buick or Chevy Impala, now those markets are gone. I find it laughable Trump has the gall to say "they better not" close those plants, what exactly can he do about it?, nothing, that's what.

They got the little Bolt EV which is a tiny crossover. Those subcompact crossovers are getting pretty popular recently. I liken them alot to Minivans. People buy big SUVs because they can't be seen driving a minivan. People buy tiny SUVs because they can't be seen driving a hatchback.

What I mean is that it doesn't seem like a real heavy of a lift for GM to build a PHEV crossover the size of say the Equinox which is what is in demand, assuming their stated goals are true. It looks like foreign automakers are beating them to the punch at every turn on anything that doesn't have a truck bed attached.

To me it feels like an arms race. Do you really want a small car in an environment where the other vehicles might be twice your kinetic energy? I got some folks who believe they need an SUV for safety.

250,000 jobs were added in October. I know your quest to blame Trump for everything, you'd blame him for not wiping your own ass properly, won't allow you to see this. Companies shed jobs, other companies hire people. The overall trend is that jobs are being added and workforce participation is ticking upwards, not decreasing like it did under Bush and Obama.

AFAIK there is a safety advantage in frontal crashes but other factors (prone to rollovers, etc) makes it kind of a wash. SUVs are really bad for pedestrians and cyclists however.
 
Huh... massive corporate tax cuts and steel tariffs didn't create manufacturing jobs? Shocking. I'm sure tweeting at them will fix it.

As said, one of GMs biggest problem is that they make boring and dreadful cars of less quality than their competitors. Their only selling point was being cheap, which is a terrible place to be for brand image and profitability.

At least Ford was trying with their Focus RS and the like before they killed off all their cars.
