General HR question...

Ok, so here's the scoop..

  • Had an interview w/ a company (not a former employee or anything)
  • Did very well, nearly got an offer letter (hr lady said so)
  • HR lady calls next day, says they have to interview an internal employee (guy applied last minute)
  • Said they have to because of law

Is this BS? Or they are just stalling to find someone better?

If the internal person doesn't get an interview (applied in time and qualified for position), then they are violating a law.

At my company we do all internal first, and then if there are no fits, we go external.

hmm, ok so this holds...

have you ever gone through all internals, then an external, then another internal applies?

I work in HR and I'll say that that procedure is very common. Most companies that I've worked for had at least a 2 weeks time for posting internal job openings, and then start looking externaly.

Also if someone within the company is interested, even after the external interview process has started, it is very common to consider that person first before anyone else. It doesn't mean that the person is better, but it's just the company following standard procedure.

I was hired externally once but had to wait for the company to post the job internally and interview candidates before I could start. I believe there is some sort of labor regulation that compels them to do that.

🙂

one of the best shows ever created..

i didn't do it to be an ass, but i got a great job offer at another restaurant and i quit my previous employment to work there the week before (a very busy) thanksgiving/ holiday season. my old boss kinda took offense to it and was being a bit of an ass, so when he asked why i did it so close to the holidays, i said in true bender fashion: "i like a breakup to be as memorable as it is devistating". that set him off. i hooked him up with a cracked mac version of Adobe CS a couple of days ago, so we're definitely cool now.
