General Advice on New Setup.

Hi, I am new to Anandtech & this is my first post. I am considering updating my present setup - AMD XP2000, Gigabyte 7VRXP Mobo, 512Mb DDR RAM, PNY Verto GF3 Ti500 Graphics, etc, which I have been very pleased with. I am trying to keep the cost of the new cards down to about £100GB, $180US each. I use my PC for general work amateur photography & games,I like to play the latest. I do not require cutting edge components & like most people like the best value for money. I will get a AMD Athlon 64 - 3000 or 3200 CPU, & would like advice on a suitable Mobo & Graphics card. I rather like Gigabyte Mobos & am considering the GAK8N series which seem good. I have been warned off of the Gigabyte Graphics cards, which were my first choice, & also the FX 5600,6000 series of cards, so I will avoid them & go for a FX 7000 or above card. I would be gratefull for advice & any alternative suggestions, for best performance, stability, value etc within my budget. Is 512 Mb of RAM enough for general use, or is it best to bite the bullet & go for 1Gb straight off. Is there any advantage in using the same make of board for both Mobo & Graphics ? Also I am considering the new Benq DW16D DVD/CD Burner.😕
