I'm about to embark on a major photo, movie, video, slide, and document archiving project to store 1000's of pictures, 1000's of slides, and hundreds of videos, and hundreds of documents onto a God knows how big of a hard drive (backed up, too!!!).

The photos and videos will cover four generations and I'm trying to figure out how to index them to track individuals by their age and activities (for example, Joe Blow at Suzie Sweetie's High School Graduation).

There's also the nagging question of how might someone 100 years from now be assured of accessing the images and the corresponding notes describing the images?

Does anybody have any suggestions, software or otherwise?

Family Tree Maker will integrate all of the data you describe. It is by Ancestry.com. For direct assistance and possibly joining a SIG, check out your local genealogical society. What state are you in?

My state is mostly confused, with occasional excursions into manic glee...

I live in Massachusetts now, but most of the information comes from Chicago. There are immigration papers relating to Lithuania. The photos and films go back to the early 1900's and were part of my late father's slightly disorganized collection.

There's no guarantee of future access. Somebody's gonna have to pick up the ball when your gone, and make sure the data formats stay current. I'd back it up to a couple of HDs, and make sure they don't become obsolete before you transfer the data to whatever comes next.
